four-thirds cropping hood / attachment for 50mm canon lens

Like many folks here, I am using an old Canon 50mm/1.4 lens on my GH1 with a M43-FD mount adapter. It works great, but I'd like to reduce or eliminate the 75% of light that gets "cropped" in the adapter & camera and can potentially bounce to the sensor.

So I'm looking for a lens hood or similar attachment that will do most of this cropping before the light even enters the lens.

I've seen these attachments on movie cameras, but I'm not sure what they are called or where to find them for this lens.

do you mean a matte box?

if not, you can get an FD lens hood for just a few bucks on ebay.

also, not sure what you mean by "cropping".
 
Thanks for the "matte box" hint. Yes, it could be a matte box or a lens hood. Though it looks like matte boxes are usually much more complicated.

To clarify: I want to matte/crop the scene down to the image circle of the 4/3 sensor, so I don't have all the extra full-frame light bouncing around inside of the lens & adapter & body. Ultimately some of that extra light hits the sensor and messes with the image.

I can put a stock lens hood (BS-52) on this lens (FD 50mm)...but that hood is designed for a full-frame (35mm film) image circle. It will not crop the image circle further.

So many people seem to be using this lens on the GH1, that I hope someone has found or modified a suitable hood/box.

If not, I'll probably start with the stock BS-52 lens hood and give it a longer tube of matte-black painted plastic, cut down until it doesn't show up in the image.

You're worrying about something that isn't an issue, at all.

My nicest FD-m43 adapter is from a Polish eBay seller, Cieco7, and it came with a little rectangular insert designed to block exactly the light you feel is an issue. Except it doesn't make a bit of difference to IQ if the insert is removed, and in an email Cieco7 himself told me he did the insert at the request of some buyers but that no, he didn't see any difference with it either.
 
Thanks sb, that's great info. I'll just whack a standard hood on the lens and forget about it.
