Footbag promo video!

Here's a short footbag promo vid we shot a month ago. Natural lighting, A1 + wdr35 (has a bad quality achromat, exhibits CA) and DIY jib and skater dolly used. He's the same guy who did beatboxing in the previous video.

All comments are welcome!

Just started uploading, will take about an hour

I really enjoyed that.
What were your recording settings i.e. frame rate/shutter speed etc?
What software did you use to slow it down and what percentage etc?

Info would be much appreciated as I liked the relative smoothness of it.

Cheers.

really nice work - I would have umped the colors a bit more but camera work was very well done. Great use of the merry go round as a dolly too! - slo mo was on par with ramped HVX - would love the recipe

I can't imagine how quick that guy was in real time - amazing footwork.

Great project man... Would love to see something longer... Great choice of Background too... Very elevated three dimensional feel... Colors could be spiked a tad more... but other than that it looks rockin...

Been waiting for this one :)

Felix is insanely talented. I'm having trouble understanding how one kid can be so good at both things. Weltklasse.

Really enjoyed the video. Great cameramoves, beautiful compositions. The only thing missing for me is a couple of realtime shots for "reference" - slowmo is excellent for displaying the moves but you don't get a real sense of the speed at which they are carried out.

Hope to see more from you.

Regarding slow-mo; if you shoot 50/60i, deinterlace and slow down using the method shown in Maltannon's tutorial and then apply Time Warp / Twixtor...should give excellent results.

Thanks for the comments.

I used 1/100th shutter speed in 50i mode for all these slowmo shots (PAL camera). Then my friend who edited this, just slowed all the footage down to 50% in Vegas and cut it. Very simple process.

I'm a little disappointed with the colors too: we planned to shoot on a sunny evening, but got thick cloud cover :( Also the spring here in Finland was so early that we didn't have green enough around us :D But happily we are shooting a second footbag video to another guy and it is going to happen midsummer! Maybe then we could include few realtime reference shots which of "rslv" talked about.

Son of gun! The video looks amazing. Where can I get one of those skater dollies and jib?! Very smooth work, my friend.

I've never heard of the wdr35 and I've been reading these forums now for a little bit. Do you like it? It seems to be producing some magnificent footage. Oh, and I meant to ask, was there any CG in that? I mean, that guy was either fan-freakin'-tastic with the foot-ball (hackey sack) or something. Either way, AMAZING footage. I look forward to the next set of footage.

The wdr35pro adapter is workable but sadly I can't recommend it to any serious camera-man. The build quality is not too robust and the GG is so roughly polished that the scratches show up when you use a shutter faster than 1/100th. The worst thing with this adapter is its achromat which exhibits some ugly looking chromatic aberration. So I probably won't use it again and will move to SGpro.

No CGI included and thanks for the compliments.

Hey badlaa,
very nice footage and slomo, but why don´t you use the HVXs variable framerates for slomo?
Also, how does your diy jib and skater dolly look like? Any Pics?
Good job!

'very nice footage and slomo, but why don´t you use the HVXs variable framerates for slomo?"

footage was shot with a Canon XHA1 - check out post header - very nice slo mo with Vegas when shot correctly.

You can see the jib in action from these pics:

...and the skater:

Also I don't know if Spartacus meant that why don't I just rent the HVX and get the real slowmo. If that was the question, the answer is that I already own the A1 and I'm pleased with this artificial slowmo method :D

thanks
