Follow Focus Help

I know this may have been discussed but I can't search for some reason. I need a cheap follow focus solution for a music video shoot coming up. I like the dfocus but it looks like there is a 4 week wait on those and I need this soon. Does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap follow focus that just gets the job done that I can pick up this week. I don't need anything crazy, just to allow someone to pull focus for me and take the movement off the camera.

I had the same issue and ended up renting instead of buying a brand I didn't want. Check around, I'm sure there's a rental house in town. If not, Borrowlenses.com has a Redrock FF system available for rent.

I bought the IndiFocus setup and was VERY disappointed in the quality of construction, yeah it's cheap, but I wished I spent more money on a higher quality brand like Cinevate's or Redrock's. However, if $$$ is a primary concern, then the IndiFocus will suffice.

I just bought the Dfocus and yes its cheap, but its pretty good quality considering the price; and I'm assuming a much better build than the indifocus. Plus, I received it in 2 days after ordering!! Granted though, I live in the same state as him, but I doubt it would take 4 weeks.

I wonder if things have changed. This is the response I got from Dave on Feb 9th:

Yes, unfortunately that is the case. New orders coming in will take about 4 weeks to get shipped.

Yeah I wonder too. The dfocus with the dslr mount is definitely the way I would like to go, it is just the wait that is holding me back right now.

Hey guys

We are working like mad men all week to try and get caught up, but the orders keep coming in! I had 4 people working for me all day yesterday and will have a few tomorrow as well. Right now I need to get about 120 built and shipped.

At the rate we are going right now, it may not be 4 weeks as we can get about 20 built and shipped in a day. But a lot of that depends on the availability of the machines at the shop. (right now its almost 9pm and I'm still here while gearboxes are cutting on the CNC mill. Will probably be here until 11.)

I am leaving for Florida on the 30th (will be gone for a week) and want to have most orders shipped by then. Not sure if we are going to get them all out or not. I will also be gone for about a week for NAB in April.

Long story short, if you are thinking about ordering, expect about 4 weeks lead time. We are trying real hard to get them out sooner, but I don't want to make promises I am not sure I can keep.

I know the extra long lead time is hurting my sales and it has my up-most attention right now. I can't just hire more people (complicated relationship with the shop, but I do have one full time guy) so I am putting every effort to streamline the production process.

Thanks for the post Dave. I am definitely looking to get your follow focus. Normally the wait might not matter but I have a shoot coming up that I need one for. If I cant find something used to get the job done I will just rent for now. Either way, when this shoot is over I will be ordering your follow focus and dslr mount, cause I have really heard nothing but good things about it and I cant wait to try it for myself. Thanks again for the update.

I have one and it works great. The price is awesome compared to other brands.
It's nice to hear that your follow focus turned out so successful that there is a waiting list.

Red rock is a great FF for the $. SG has a lot of gret features too. Both really give some true pro reliability at dirt prices. Oh yeah, customer service is top notch from both.
