The Proper way to import from P2 into FCP6

I just recently got my HVX200, i am making my debut feature film and i just wanted some insight on if what i am doing to import the footage is the best way.

I mount the harddrive via Firewire (is their a difference in quality with the USB connection?)

I have a DVCPRO HD 720p/24p project open....

File>Log&Transfer...

I notice though that final cut takes the MXF files and converts it to ProRes(HQ), that means its not uncompressed anymore right?

Couple things- a it is already compressed in the camera to DVCPROHD. By logging and transferring you are switching file headers from MXF to MOV. No image or audio data is changed. And no prores.

i know the window in log & transfer that says pro-res. it's kinda misleading. fcp doesn't do anything to the original clips except rewrap them in a quicktime container. one thing you might want to do is go into the little prefs window within the log & transfer window and uncheck the "remove duplicate frames" box. i assume you are shooting 720pn when i say this. if so, having that box checked can sometimes throw out frames you want to keep and you end up with weird clips at like 9fps, etc. if you are shooting pa or p then keep it checked.
 
i shot with FS-100 quicktime clips...

but if i do .mxf files...and open the log and transfer , the FCP6 can´t see the mxf files..cann´t select anything...and i already installed the camera´s CD.

what´s wrong?
 
If you shot to Quicktime on the FS-100, then you don't have to go through Log & Transfer, you just drag the files right into your bin.
 
FX Factory interfered with P2 import...BUT as Barry pointed out, if you already have the QT files then you don't use L&T.

I missed that.
 
I'm new to the Mac work flow but I can't believe FCP can't connect the audio and video on import from the last clip file like Avid does after all this time. WTF.
 
yes barry , but i'm concerned about the fact that anytime my fire sotre can stop....because it has moving part , and all that old story about the fs100 , it can happen anytime.and i will need to rent a p2.

and i pretend to rent a underwater housing to do some diving shoots., and it is possible only with p2



i readed a lot of posts taht people just open their log and transfer and ingest then
...

with my fcp, it doesnt happen.
