Focus - Short Film Teaser

Hi everyone. I just wanted to share a teaser trailer for my short film Focus based on the story Berenice by Edgar Allan Poe.

The film isn't quite finished yet - a couple of key scenes still to shoot - but I wanted to get some feedback on some of what I have so far. Especially the composition of shots and the mood of the piece.

Disclaimer: this is my first film but feel free to be brutal :)

All feedback welcome. Thanks in advance.

PS if you want me to cast my novice eye over your work just point me to your thread.

Looks very nice - great exposure and some very nice composition - mood feels right, good use of the teaser format, all in all it looks solid to me - it does have the sort of typical "i'm making an art film" vibe to it but I'm not so bothered by that in your case because you seem to actually be backing it up and if the screenplay is a good take on a Poe story, you should definitely be able to generate some interest. It doesn't look novice in any sense of the word, some really beautiful shots here, the shots have what I like to call "confidence."

Just out of curiosity, what are you shooting on? Looks like a 7D but I could be off!

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Really glad you liked it. I'm a little wary of the art-film tag but it seemed like the best route to go with a Poe adaptation. I only hope it doesn't cross the line into "pretentious" but that's a very subjective term.

I'm so glad it doesn't look novice, that was my biggest worry. Although it's my first film I did study film theory years ago and I've been a hobbyist stills photographer for a couple of years so I learnt a few hard lessons about exposure and composition.

You were close with the 7D, it's actually shot on the t2i/550D

Thanks again!

From a purely camera point of view, I really like the look and feel of the film. Some of the shots are really beautifully composed. I would love to see the finished product. It's hard to believe it's your first film. Nice work.

+1 it does not look like your first film at all, you avoided a lot of tell-tale first-time-film mistakes and with a lot of grace, this looks very solid.
