Fisheye comparison using HMC150

i recently called century about their new xtreme fisheye for the hpx/hmc. i was looking to rent it for a weekend and wanted to get some information about where to rent it from. despite many online retailers advertising it as "available" it actually isn't. the lens is still in the R&D stage and will be for at least another month according to century.

hi, does the opteca need a spacer ring to mount, or does it screw well without touching the camera lense?

The footage on the clip is fully zoomed out so you can see what it's like. I guess the image is a little softer towards the edges, but nothing major.

Man... that's great. I think we might have an absolute winner. The .40 and it's 200 bucks. I love the Century stuff but it's more about bang for your buck..

Cheers for putting this up. I bet you are pretty happy with it. I also want to pick up a cheap teleconverter...

Hi Justyn,

Yes, I'm delighted with it. Someone had recommended a $600 Schneider fisheye so I was pretty relieved to find an alternative for $229 including delivery to the UK!

Stuart.. Cheers on that. You have sold me on it too. Footage looks great and I love the Schneider stuf fand having a bayonette mount but not for 3 times the money. I think for 600 bucks, I could get a fisheye, teleconverter and another large battery.

Times have changed in terms of the video world, so it's about more bang for your buck.. Also for 600 bucks I think I'd rather use that money and get a GH1. That cam looks really good and would be a good B cam or such for the 150. I don't want to sell the 150.. it's too darn reliable and too easy to shoot with.... but well, it's good to have toys.

Cheers Stuart and I think I'll pull the trigger on one this week. Did you pick up a teleconverter?

I'll be shooting a wedding on Saturday so I'll try and get some more meaningful shots up next week.

I don't need a teleconverter though as I find the stock lens long enough for what I do.

Hey Stuart,

Good find.. So is there any vignetting on it? Is it pretty sharp looking? So it screws right on to the haze filter hu? Sweet! Is this a new lens? Did it just come out? Great find and your work on your site looks really good. I do weddings also and I have been wanting a FE for a long time..

Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing more footage..
Brian

any ideas if the opteka 0.3x needs a spacer so it wont scratch the hmc lense? strobe, maybe?

thanks!

Just done another quick clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnDczQocF5g

The iris was fully open so the DoF is quite shallow.

To my eyes:

The image is softer in the corners (as you would expect), this may be partly to do with DoF.

There was some colour fringing towards the edges as well.

There was barrel distortion obviously

There was no vignetting (if by that you mean a black circle round the edge or darkening towards the edges).

The centre of the image was sharp.

I fitted it to the UV filter that I use to protect my lens, but it would attach to the camera lens directly if you prefer. i think it probably is a new lens but you would have to talk to Opteka to find out.

Regards,

Stuart
