Fisheye comparison using HMC150

Hey Stuart,

What's the attachment that you have bolted to the top of the HMC150 handle ?

It's a quick release plate. I have one on the top and on the bottom. The mating half is attached to my tripod, monopod and glidecam. Allows quick change overs. The one on top is so that I can hang the camera under my monopod for low angle shots.

It is a good purchase as there is no other fisheye that looks as good as the xtreme, hands down. If you pay your bills filming bmx or skateboarding then the xtreme is worth buying. It may not be cheap, but neither was any of my camera gear.

I dont understand why everyone likes the fisheye garbage, if it makes things look good take a picture of a person with it. It makes them look horid. Anyone who thinks fisheye is more than a gimic is beyond me, its about the image not about showing off that you have the biggest lens around. the film you make is not about you its about the subject and anyone who doesnt understand that I feel bad for.

Maybe you should watch some professional skateboard/snowboard/bmx film. They're dead serious about the fisheye. For everything else I probably agree with you.

I seen some great footage of a fisheye on event videography, I'm not saying to put the thing on and forget about it, but for a few shoots it could make them shine! things that otherwise would be boring to watch... I see it like an extra tool in my bag, it helps me get some "eye candy" shoots.

that's exactly how i see it, which is why i'd much rather pay 200 dollars than 3000. no fisheye shot will ever be worth that much to me.

Other than for a short shot for a scary movie, or for an illusion of looking through a peephole......I still don't understand the point of these things!!!
I wouldn't buy the best one out there for a dollar!
YUCK!!!!

Haha, you've nailed my thoughts exactly ;). I've been watching this thread for a long time thinking "yuck!", lol

I don't understand the point of shooting a wedding video. So what? Fortunately the earth isn't as flat as some people might think it is. If you could read up a few more posts above you would understand what a fisheye can be good for. But reading is difficult sometimes I see.

Nice work Lee_B, looks awesome. I just received the Opteka 0.4x lens a couple days ago but haven't had time to use it yet. How long is the spacer ring your using and do you have a link to what one your using. Do you think you can pick these up at local camera stores?

Thanks and keep charging!

Checked the local camera stores and no luck. One of the camera shops said to just stack uv filter? WTF?

Just wondering where to pick up one of these for the HMC and if they come in different lengths and if so, what is optimal length to get lens wide as possible.

Thanks for any input:)

I bought the Opteka 72mm .3X before the .4X and it came with a spacer. I think some people just buy a cheap UV filter and take the glass out. Or at least that's what I've done in the pass. The spacer that came with the Opteka lens was larger than most filters I've seen. I put two spacers with the .4x and it had some vignetting so now I just use one.

Nice, thanks for clarifying that. I have a UV filter on the camera already (W/Glass), I will look and see if Opteka sells the spacer for the 0.3x seperately and see what I find out.

Thank you:)

This footage clinches it. The .4 looks just about as good as the century and it's 1/3 the price. I know where my money is going on a fisheye...
