So I know I messed up trying to get some cool shots using manual focus but besides that screw up what do you guys think? I really plan on doing more weddings in the very near future but want to get better with each one I do, I want to get a steadycam to get those amazing shots you see in so many great wedding highlights... so tell me what you guys think.

00:02 - NEVER do a wide DOF pan on a DSLR if you're shooting high-detail objects, like these brick buildings. You'll get moire, which you did.
00:07 - That pan sorta ends abruptly. Could be smoother.
00:09 - beautiful shot! well framed and exposed! beatiful!
00:22 - very jittery focus movement here. should be smooth.
02:09 - there's a lot of pans and focus pulling shots - it gets tiresome after a while.
03:17 - i see a lot of bride shots from below her eyeline - that's a no-no. women always look prettier when shot from above.
03:51 - OMG terrible light! halogen in the ceiling i presume! terrible. that probably wasn't your choice. haha just terrible. yeah you probably didn't have a say on where they had to stand.

overall it's not bad work - i think weddings are some of the toughest things to pull and you did a fine job, especially with a DSLR, which is tricky on live situations.

thanks alot Gabriel you mentioned all the exact points I thought about being the negative things. thanks for the comment on the bricks I was wondering why It looked so horrible. I'm very new with the dslr for filming this was actually the first project I filmed with it.. probably a very bad idea considering I had not much of an idea how to use it. yeah I had no control over the lighting it was terrible, I mean the groomsmen even changed in a childrens sunday school at the church! it was bad. haha thanks for the comments my friend!

That is a great start Brett, but why aren't there more footage from the actual wedding? It looks like you just filmed them getting ready and missing out on some of the greatest action shots from a wedding itself.

Overall a good start. Keep at it.

Here is a wedding we shot recently. Check it out and lemme know what you think too.

Who's the bride here again? I see a couple of woman being made up. One with dark brown here then I see a woman with blonde hair?

Second that one shot of the Groom putting his shoes on wearing some old socks looks very bad. First of all if you were getting married I would assume you would be wearing everything brand new and also bad on your part for not noticing that, that shot only destroyed your video.

Overall I must say that this video does not flow smoothly and after about the second pan you should have stopped. Seems like you were panning on a tripod and it just does not look good.

**Nothing personal with my message and I know this is hard work, but judging you by this video I would not hire you for videographer work. I think you need to practice a lot more.

Hey thanks for your input man, I dont take this atall as an insult or negativity. I love to learn from my mistakes and learn from everything I do. I will consider what you have taken for the next wedding I do. I agree about things not flowing much. but I was hired for only $100 bucks... so I didnt stay for the whole wedding and images got scarce so I looped alot of the same images. and your right about you cant tell who the bride is.. she was VERY skeptical about me filming her while she was getting ready...so that didnt make things any better for me.. but thanks for all the tips man! it was my first wedding so hopefully ill learn from this one.

I was hired for only $100 bucks...

Daaaamn. I thought I was cheap! :)

Pretty good shots though, a little repetitive, but for your first time doing that kind of stuff, it looks pretty good.

ha yeah. Ryan and Jordan, I would have charged more, but people have the WONDERFUL quilt trip going for them "well Im paying for a photographer, decorations, singers, preacher etc. I just dont know if we have alot to pay you" (Even though they come to me before hand.) it is very cheap I agree. but these days I would do anything for a few bucks.. work is very hard to come by here in Georgia.

Time to move, then.

How much time/hours did you spend on this project?

Man, you're crazy! $100?! More power to ya!

When I first started out, my cheapest one was $300 as I was learning. Understand that EVERYONE is on a budget. I'll bet the photographer received a little more than $100.

hmmm id say about 12 hours.. filming and post production.

Which breaks down to about $8.33 per hour. I know it is very difficult and sorry to hear that. Gain the experience you learned from it and please in the future do not cut yourself so short. At that price you can actually work just about any job and get paid the same if not more.

Have confidence in yourself and your prices, family or not you must be payed for your time. Even if you would have charged them $200 you would have at least broken even. Learn my friend and DO NOT let anyone in the future take advantage of you.

Thanks Cieloent. by this I have definitely learned. if anything I have learned how to approach a wedding the next go around.

Brett,

Don't worry. In November I'm going to be on the same boat as you. Will be my first wedding video too.

Main difference... I'm doing it for free

Well, it's for my cousin's wedding so she's getting a helluva deal (assuming I can pull this off).

The only thing I worry about is coming up with good composition/shots while on the spot.

well I mostly do short films. so I treated alot of the shots as if I was filming a short film. not the wedding itself but the shots where the bride and groom were getting ready. If I liked something that they did I would ask them to do it again from a cool angle. so dont be afraid to ask to get a cool shot, just dont ask for the groom to kiss the bride again if you miss it :P
