First time traveling with the GH3

This was my first time taking a trip since switching to the GH3 from Canon, and overall I loved using the camera. Obviously this wasn't a paid gig and is pretty touristy and "off-the-cuff" when it comes to footage.

Positives: Love the battery life, love being able to shoot 1080p60, love the codec options and the built in time lapse function.

Cons: Being locked to NTSC while in PAL land was a major annoyance, and something I didn't have to deal with on Canons.

Most of the problems with the final video I can't lay at the hands at the camera but instead of the operator. I opted to really just keep the camera by my side and shoot whenever I saw something interesting, but I don't have steady enough hands for that and it shows. Shooting in 60p helped to mitigate some of the shake, but still a problem. I lost a few good shots due to areas which I thought were naturally lit instead had some hidden bulbs, and then introduced flicker.

Overall it was a great lesson in what to do and what not to do, and I just love the size of the kit for traveling. More critiques are always welcome.

(By the way it feels like this forum should have one massive 'show off your GH3 videos' thread, as creating a new one just for a single video seems a little self indulgent.)

When I read the title of your post, I thought you were the first to Time-Travel with the GH3. :cheesy:

Great footage and editing. Makes me want to visit Paris again since my honeymoon 9 years ago!

+1 for thinking it was a time travelling thread.

I love the rain shot and upwards turning shot from :020 - 0:24 and the one at 2:49, those are sweet, I love the detail. Some of the outside stuff seemed a little blown out, but nothing too distracting. Good stuff.

The problem with being the first is that all the next guys to time-travel with their GH3 will just go back and beat you to it.

Excellent scenery, thanks for sharing it with us!

Thanks for the comments everyone, definitely could have phrased the thread title better.

And yes you are absolutely right about some of the blown out exterior shots. First thing I did when I get back from the trip was invest in some new ND filters, what I brought with just didn't cut it. Live and learn.
