First shoot with HVX?

I'm pretty sure it's not 1080p and it is 1080i 30P in the same way the DVC30 gives you progressive (Frame mode).
.

Yes, I believe everyone knows it not 1080P. Due to the DVCPRO-HD stream it's 1080i with 24p or 30p fps capabilites. This formating is no different from how the DVX100 handled 480i/24P.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is every bit as much 1080p as the cinealta is. It images a 1080p frame and then records that by segmenting it into fields. Nothing at all like frame mode.

Hmmm...
Man, this thing is sounding better the more I hear about it.
1080/ 60P CCD. This sounds like a breakthough. No wonder Panasonic
is waiting for the rollout.
Also, I would think image lattitude may be better than expected for progressive?

...The chip is pure straight raw progressive, that's one thing they've definitely confirmed.....

I haven't seen that bit of info. Can you link me to the Panasonic info please?

I don't really get the fascination with screen grabs anyway. If it was a digital still camera, then sure. But since it's a motion picture camera, I want to see some clips in motion!

"I care not for the taste of bread crumbs, save that they come from bread."

We ALL would prefer motion clips, but Panasonic released a single still, so a year's worth of pent up interest was, perhaps unfairly, directed toward it.

Your plans and ideas for shooting demo footage makes perfect sense, I hope you're on base with the first of the units to hit shore!

Happy Thanksgiving to all in the States!

It's translated Japanese so it gets a bit wierd in some of the wording but go to:

http://world.altavista.com/babelfis...http://panasonic.biz/sav/p2/hvx200/index.html

It says pretty clearly in the chip section that it uses 1080/60p chips. This is a progressive chip camera for sure. You WILL be able to get 24p and 30p in 1080. It's confirmed.
Thanks for the link. I examined it. There seems (to me) to be a discrepancy. The table's image format's do not reflect a 1080p24 mode. Instead, it reflects a 1080i 30p and 24p mode (1080/24p over 60i) which coincides with the information I have. Barry is probably right that it is not a frame mode and has some other math but the information I have is that it is a 1080i/720p camera.

I don't like to speculate and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. My understanding does agree with the table information listed on the link and not the verbs in the chip section of the link.

Has anyone tried another web translator on the same site?

This has been addressed by Jan more then once...

:)

Yeah, here's Jan's quote, and it really doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room, it's pretty straightforward:

"The camera starts with a progressive chip, a 1080/60P chip. In its 24P or 30P modes, or its variable frame modes, it will change to that time base for capture, but it starts as a progressive chip capture and then makes the conversion, cross conversion or down conversion from there. It is a true progressive chip set and will make progressive pictures, not marketing, but rather, engineering."

Jim Arthurs mentioned in another thread that the keyed pic has been updated. It looks a lot better now that the key was done properly.

For the record, since everyone (save for a few) seem to be having such a difficult time digesting this information:

HVX-200 = REAL PROGRESSIVE CCDs!!! They're not interlaced CCD's with some funky thing going on to acheive a pseudo progressive image. The CCD's in the HVX-200 are PROGRESSIVE. got it??? PROGRESSIVE CCD's. Really... Seriously... they're pure PROGRESSIVE CCD's.

As has been said a countless number of times by Jan, Barry, and a few other people. The imaging section of the HVX-200 IS 1080/60P!!! That's right, 1080/60P not "i" or anything else; it's 1080/60P. That 1080/60P data is sent into the DSP circuitry where it is then shot out in the numerous formats the HVX is capable of recording to media (1080/60I, 1080/24P, 1080/30P, 720 etc...)

:)

You know whose evening was definetely uneventful? Most of the Microsoft activation centre reps.
I have called them a number of times today to activate their crappy Windows and Office, and all of the reps said the exact same thing in the exact same monotonous voice. All of them had some sort of middle eastern background too. It sounded like they were enslaved and were given wages in pigeon eggs and smelly candles to keep themselves warm. It looks like the most corporate job in the world to work at Microsoft.

Hail Apple! :)

Anyway, hehe. The key got improved a little, but I think even if it wasn't improved too much, they certainly did hide the artifacts by going with a lower resolution image. I don't like outright cheating :).

Apple doesn't require activation for the OS? very nice. How about office for mac?

I hate the activation thing, only because i get a new computer every 2 months and gotta phone them each time when i transfer office to the new computer.

No, office for mac doesn't require activation either. I don't think it even asks you for the serial number, actually.
As to Office, I'm not sure there's an unlimited number of times you can activate your copy of Office...There definetely isn't for Windows XP.
Also, today I've found out that Microsoft actually has its support in India. That explains the accents, and it sort of fits my slavery theory as those workers don't get paid a heck of a lot.
But anyway, this is greatly offtopic :). I guess this will just one more time show those who have HVX200 on their hands that we're BORED WITHOUT SOME RAW FOOTAGE!! Come on, the music video can wait! Give us something to argue, drool over, sleep less, think about at work, have dreams about etc.

Hey Harlan,

You are talking about the NTSC version, right? Cause, I believe, the PAL is 1080/50p.

Office for Mac doesn't even require installation. I love that. You just drag the Office folder from the disc to your apps folder.

There a few mac apps like that.

Holy crap, that [updated frame grab] looks GREAT! What's everybody arguing about? I think a greenscreen frame grab is a GREAT example work product for this camera! It gets to show off its 4:2:2 prowness in a real-world, nitty-gritty application: greenscreen/compositing work! In fact, this is EXACTLY the type of application where the HVX200 will SHINE. This camera is perfect for acquiring assets for After Effects graphics designers and greenscreen/compositing stuff.

This frame grab (and rewatching my Sin City DVD) may have single-handedly put me BACK in the HVX200 camp! I just realized that, okay, so I WON'T have that great 2/3" shallow depth-of-field characteristic with a 1/3" camera like the HVX200. So, I'll just shoot EVERYTHING greenscreen and blur my background plates at will!
