First Letus35A shoot

Dude, you didn't really take them down did you? I was just joking.

Ncje, do you have a 100a or a 100? Actually I guess that wouldn't make a difference in this case. I wonder if the GG is smaller in the flip?

scharky, I was joking too ... no way I'm taking those down. :) LOL.

ncje, I missed that you had a Flip. Could be a similar issue as the one that we tested ... we had to zoom all the way in to about 86 before the edges of the GG was COMPLETLY out of frame (not just the LCD, but true frame). Quyen is working on a model that will have an adjustable mirror ... bottom line, if you look at yours, as you zoom in it may appear that the GG is off center. Apparently, according to Quyen, different camera's CCD's view differently ... so a DVX will be slightly to the right, while a XL2 may be more to the left, or something like that.

So, if yours is appearing to be offcenter to one side, contact Quyen, and he may be able to help you adjust the mirror, or work with him for some other fix.

But no ... you shouldn't have to zoom in THAT far, especially since the farther you zoom in, the more light you lose in camera.

'I can see the grain man!'

haha

Looks really good. I have a L35 ( earlier version ) that I use on my VX2100. But I'm hesitant to get one for my FX1. Do those rod support systems add a lot of weight? I heard teh M2 with rod supports adds like 11 pounds! And for HD, the Letus would add too much grain for my taste. If you shot that with a DVX how did you get the wide aspect ratio? and also I just cannot understand how anyone, ( disjecta also ) can take something that is SD res and make it higher. How can you upsample something and add res that isn't there?? To me that would just **** on the image. But i have seen disjectas stuff and how it did it and i'm seeing the result so I have to belive it... but like.... HOW?? ..

lol

Disjecta uses the Photozoom Pro process for uprezzing, which is the best process for the money that I've seen ... even out performs some other programs that cost more. It's a few extra steps, but can be worth it, depending on the look you want.

Wide aspect ratio is just a matter of cropping in Vegas, etc.

I don't know about the regular Letus35, but Quyen believes the Letus35 Flip Advanced is HD ready ... though he's not specifically marketing it for that, and I'm not sure why.

So I've got some new settings that I've been experimenting with that will give a virtually noiseless image even with uprezzing and still maintain a maximum amount of detail. There is still a little noise there, but no more than is apparent in the normal DVX image. I have a shoot this weekend, and I will post some results when I get them.
To give you a clue, it has to do with pre and post processing the image.

I'm still working on it. I'll post a clip in a little bit. I want to get your opinions on it first, and then I'll spill. I promise. :)

:)
well, here is some new test footage. This is an indoor shoot, becasue this is where most noise issues take place. Again my loving wife and ferret posed for this shot. This was lit very crudely with a couple of work lights, so it's ugly as hell. I actually can make it even less grainy than this, but I felt this looks pretty good. Let me know what you think, and I'll post my settings in a minute.

Envision, be carefull or I'll sick my ferrets on you, like Beast Master :)

Yeah, the lighting's not doing you any favors, but as far as noise goes, it looks good. Where I notice these things getting the worst (partly to blame on the DVX, as the adapters just magnify the problem), is in the blacks.

It'd be cool to have something DARK in the background to see how that looked along with everything else.

Well, tommorow I will post some grabs from my shoot. It will hopefully have much better lighting, and more of a dynamic environment.

But what I found with the camera is that turning the master ped all the way up to 0, gave me alot of freedome in getting rid of alot of dark noise. I then applied a curves and levels filter in post, to bring the contrast back to where it should be, and got very favorable results. I also applied a sharpening filter, an edge soften filter and then finally the dynamic noise reduction filter at +7. I have found that I can turn the filter all the way up to about +10 without any adverse effects, it just depends on how smooth you want your footage.

Envision, this looks like this post has turned into a conversation just between the two of us. Are all Washingtonians geeks like us?

Brother, I have no state identity. Living here in Vancouver, WA, we're basically a metropolitan extension of Portland, OR, so we kind of get included in a lot of Oregon stuff, left out of a lot of Washington stuff. We're just kind of this bastard child called Southwest Washington ... kind of the cream between the Oreo cookies, so to speak (Oregon and Washington).

So no, I'm not a geek :nads: Oh, THAT hurt. :) j/k

So you like having the master pedestal now at 0 instead of -15, -10, -5, etc.? When you go lower, is THAT'S what is making the noise in the blacks?

We'll be doing a bunch of camera tests this Sunday night with our lead actress that's coming over so we can test camera settings (shutter, etc. for action movements) and lighting ... as well as get some footage of her for our FX guy to start doing some samples & tests on for motion tracking & compositing.

Oh I'm following quite closely, kids. I have a letus35a myself. Thinking of cancelling my g35 preorder and getting a flip. And your footage makes a darn good arguement for it.

Uh oh, another Washingtonian chimes in...

Stef, that process seems even more elaborate than the uprezzing procedure I posted! :)

it runs really slow for me for some reason... stutters and all...
but looks great. I'm jumpin in and gettin it too. sigh.. just can't resist.
thanks sharky.

Sorry Scharky thought I would chime in with a grab from a follow up music vid i shot last week. For some components I used the flip... studio shots I did came up exactly as I had envisioned this is with no cc at all. Only post work is letterbox, which was only added as a test as in it will be removed then re added after cc.

Sorry also here is a cc'd 4 second clip upressed to 720p. CC was only a slight color change. Upressed with photoshop, Im going to try this one out on the regiant demo later to compare. But this thread isnt about that.. anyway its footage from Letus flip. This clip is 720p so the 4 seconds is about 17mb.

CLICKY CLICKY

The photoshop upres isnt so good. Not like photozoom.

Ncje, the clip for some reason looks very highly compressed, with some serious interlacing issues. What algorithim did you use to uprezz in photoshop? It looks like nearest neighbor to me, which is really not great for uprezzing an image.
Just so you know, I did extensive tests a while back between photoshop uprezzing and vegas uprezzing, and believe it or not, vegas actually produced the same if not better looking images than photoshop. Just so you know, because I know it's a slow tedious process.

By the way, the must have had some serious lighting in there, looks really good. And that lead singer is pretty easy on the eyes as well. Looks a tad like the bad ass Natalie Portman from the SNL digital short :).
