FS7: Firmware V3.0 Released? [Interval Recording, Focus Magnification area position+more]

I wouldn't throw stones at the engineers. Maybe all these fixes are in some related related and you don't want to try fixing them one at a time.
I'm far from doing it. More on guys in charge.

Of course it could be like you're saying. But I'm just embittered today :(

alohype the point being that a good bunch of the 'features' that made people be early adopters of the FS7 still come with so many gotchas as to be unusable. raw and luts the main offenders.

Lol Cinema5D getting the credit for 'discovering' this. RAW should have been fixed in version 2.

Maybe, if Cinema5D to post an article on on the shitty LUT implentation and the shutter bug Sony might fix those too...

I don't know one user who is desperately waiting for a raw output fix. But plenty of people who are really waiting on center crop and other fixes. Why not wait for 3.1 to fix raw?

Because there isn't going to be a 3.1 fix. 3.0 will be your lot and anything unfinished/buggy after that and we'll have to live with it and that'll include the shutter bug.

It's beyond my understanding what Sony is doing with such a successful camera for them. Acting clever would be to inttoduce a lot of new features and firmwares to get people fully in Sony ecosystem. But maybe whole technical design was to optimistic and now they harvest all the issues coming from decisions made on the board?

I think these engineers are pressured and never given enough time to do what they need in order to get the camera's on the market within a specific timeframe or set date.

It's the same with any manufacturing business, you can't afford to miss the market and sometimes that means later you deal with issues, recalls, etc.. as they come up.

Don't blame the engineers, they are smarter than anyone in the corporation of Sony no doubt.

Like I said few posts above: I do not blame engineers (I'm actually one of them as well ;). I blame decision makers.

The fact of the matter is that the FS7 has all the specs on paper to be very very relevant in the market for another 2 years (at least).

Far better to continue to develop the camera through firmware - both unpaid and paid - and make people invested in it over that period rather than carry out a smash and grab with something that only does 80% of what it was advertised as doing, releasing its follow up before the original is fixed, leaving people disillusioned by their dishonesty and vowing never to buy another camera from that maker again.

The disdain and disinterest which Sony appears to have for their userbase is astonishing in 2015.

Arri and Red are two companies that embrace the feedback from the community and subsequently have strong support and community among their users. With Sony it feels we are all waiting around for them to throw us a crumb and when they do it's always at least three months late and never enough crumbs to provide a full meal.

From Sony FS7 Product Manager Juan Martinez on the Sony Forum:

"Welcome to the FS7 discussion forum, a dedicated space where you can directly interact with Sony and other users. Be part of continued product development, provide feedback and suggestions, get answers directly from the source, and be among the first to know of the latest developments as they happen, including firmware, hardware, accessories, workflow and much more."

What he meant was:

"Welcome to the FS7 discussion forum, a dedicated space where you will be ignored by Sony and misled by one really annoying fanboy..."

I have high hopes for Panasonic. They seems to be listening to customer feedback the most and releasing substantional firmware updates. If they would release a super 35 cam in fs7 price range it could be a hit.

I think they may have missed the spot with this DVX200 refresh, but a Varicam Mini would get a lot of traction I think.

A Varicam mini with 4k 10 bit 4:2:2 60P, no RAW and no dual ISO sensor. 120 in 1080. Cost 9000$/€. That would make a lot of sense.

Keep the dual iso as the thing that separates them from everyone else and it would find a niche all of its own I reckon.

I would be happy if they just fix the mic preamps so I can stop using separate audio recorders.
NR in CINE EI would be nice, but I can live without it.
Center crop only matters if you use 16mm cine lenses.
For me it's a rather "meh" FW announcement.

.

You must be kidding. I use center crop all the time on my F55 and FS5 and would love to have it on the FS7 as well. It works great with any decent quality lens and has nothing to do with 16mm cine lenses. Although I mostly shoot 4K this is a very powerful feature when whenever I'm shooting HD or 2K HFR, particularly wildlife and sports.

Why not just shoot 4K and crop it in post?

Why not just shoot 4K and crop it in post?

Because I can't shoot over 60 fps in 4K. As I said in my previous post, I use center crop for HFR at 180fps and 240 fps, which I use constantly for wildlife and sports.
Center crop turns my Canon 200-400 f/4 with built-in 1.4x extender into a beautiful 1120mm f/5.6 lens.

If you shoot Doc or News you often have to be in MPEG2 mode in 1080 the ability to double the range of your lens in seconds is a hugely valuable option.

period

Patience... it's going to happen but maybe just a few weeks beyond what was originally said. You could always be waiting for an Ursa 4.6K which was advertised for July-August and now is still in beta.
