C100: Firmware upgrade possible?

Canonrumors.com Just said Canon will be introducing a C line Cam between C100 and C300 in NAB 2013. WTH? If this is the case then C100 is like Rebel T2i in DSLR line. Doomed, no question.
I posted on the other thread.....I think there is no chance for a C200...there is no reason for it nor something above the C500....just my opinion.

It was not an old cpu...it (Divic III)was the best one at the time they started the development of the C300...they are not going to finish the camera, then go and rip out the III for a newer one. Expect that when they put out a "mark II" or "s" model.

Look at Canon XF100 & Canon XF300 - they used the same processor! and these cams are how old? 3 years old? so the processor is probably even older as it took them some time to create cam around it....
i dont believe that after 3-4 years there were no better processor on market! maybe they had too many of old cpu`s and decided to use it?

and if u noticed xf100 & xf300 - still has no 60p - so i am sure there will be no 60p with that mpeg2 long gop 4:2:2 codec,-

but what they could do - not sure if its technically possible - but i would not mind against the 2nd codec on c300, if they could add avchd 1080 60p as an option! that would be nice

also i would not mind if they would reduce bit rate for long gop in order to give 60p , in fact i would not mind against any extra they would put on c300

I would be happy if Canon annouced a 720 50/60 firmware upgrade for the C100!.....please......please again!

well, I know for C100, 4:2:2 is not possible because of avchd, but I still want that more than anything else, INTERNALLY.

Ive got 2 64GB SDs in it and for a 2 days shoot, 4 batteries cant even fill up 1/4 of total SD space, I still believe it is pointless to put AVCHD in C100.

I believe Atomos have made a sxxx load of money on C100 users lol, must cleaned their Ninja2 inventory.

Agree Jim. I just cant see the market positioning for a 200 at all at this point in time. Caveat: I have been wrong before.

I still believe it is pointless to put AVCHD in C100.

To play devil's advocate here, and speaking as one for whom the C100 was intended, the use of AVCHD in Event Videography is justified:

We rarely need the robustness of the 4:2:2 50 Mbit codec as our production chain is usually Rushes --> Edited Master --> Web/Screen/DVD

And most importantly...

SHOOTING RATIO!

Any broadcast cameraman would be HORRIFIED at the shooting ratio of Event Videography, and due to time constraints (up to and including same day edits), there's no separate logging of rushes or even considered and contemplatative viewing at the edit. Shove it all in, skim it and assemble it. It's just gosh-darn QUICKER to import hours of footage that's 24 Mbits, rather than 50 and up.

Then there's backing up and archiving - AVCHD is half the size and takes half the time on file size alone. Having extensively shot and edited XDCAM - good enough for Broadcast news BTW - I'm happy with AVCHD. With the caveat that it's not all sprinkles and unicorns, it does have issues, and some are unique to the C100.

c100 costs $6.5k, C300 $16K. C200 should be around $10-12k. Even if c200 has 422 internal + 720p slowmo, I'm not getting it at that price. C100's price is sweet enough for my job which is mainly weddings and simple event and corporate jobs. Anything more than 9k takes a longer time to recoup the investments.

I like Canon cameras and lenses, but Canon's way of doing business is something else. It's getting really tiring. Let's make one camera with three different configurations at three different prices, so we can sell it to Pro, Prosumer, and Consumer, and everyone in between. Soon we may see a camera between 1dx and 1dc too?

they do it because they can - its simple, they own huge share of market, and yes its not nice, but we gave them that right....

I think it's more likely to be another DSLR style C camera, being priced between the C100 & C300 maybe a 5D C with a full frame 1080/60p capable sensor.

Because of the XF codec or because of the hardware that reads off the sensor? Because the C300 would never get 60p because the XF codec isn't in spec with that. AVCHD on the other hand has had a standardized addition that supports 60p.

As I wrote earlier: the C100 and C300 already scan the sensor at 60 fps. It's in the white papers.

Panasonic did an interesting thing - 60p over HDMI with some "10 bit" (not true 10bit but some how better then 8bit) that would be a nice improvement to c300 & to c100

that is what these camera do already

Can some one please tell me a realistic reason why people want 10 bit containers so badly?

Fine. The C300 will still never get 60p in the XF codec.

And I never said or implied that it would. But that only covers internal recording.

But it might actually be the case, that the much praised XF codec is the very reason that none of the cameras have 60 fps.

The C100 could get it immediately, but they can't give to the C100 if the C300 doesn't get it at the same time.

But theoretically it should be possible for Canon to allow for 60 fps via 4:2:2 uncompressed out. It would then be nice if recorders such as the Ninja 2 could bump the firmware to support this.

It's all very unlikely though.

I have an awful feeling that the Ninja and all other HDMI recorders currently available CAN'T do 50/60p - this being a specialism of the higher end 3G HD-SDI recorders like the Gemini. The problem being that HDMI in its 1.3 and 1.4 guise is still thinking in terms of 1080i - so i50/i60 = p25/p29.97, and that's it.
