GH2 firmware update no 25p?

Movie recording suitable for editing in high bit rate.
• Record motion pictures in AVCHD format.
Picture quality and frame number are fixed as follows.
Image quality (bit rate): 1920k1080 pixels/Approx. 24 Mbps
Frames number (fps): 25p (Sensor output is 25 fps)
Aspect ratio: 16:9
 
Fantastic news. Can we get the title of this thread changed or you'll be ruining a lot of people's day!

Presumably hack users should wait until the new firmware is hacked. Hopefully not long before we get high bit rate hacked 25p modes.
 
Its 25p , but its wrapped in 50i ... little complicated.
Some programs recognize those files as interlaced, some others as progressive.
But i tried it and its progressive output, wrapped in 50i (or 25i).

Yes, it's 25P - and it has the same thin dark band as it has @ 24p

That was the first thing I checked - as before, clean at 50i, dark line @ 24p, and now thin dark line @ 25p - which is a shame.

I know that it only affects under-exposed parts of the image (but they don't have to be *that* under-exposed for the line to appear) but I don't see how some amount of under-exposure can be avoided, particularly when shooting indoors under normal light - no matter what the speed of the lens, if the exposure is correct for the bright part of the room it will be somewhat under-exposed in other parts. Noise in under-exposed portions is to be expected, but the band?

all right, I'm confused and I think I'm not the only one. So am I right in saying that if I select the new High Bit Rate mode, it will be 25P? Or do I have to change to 25p somewhere else?

Im a bit confused from your question. We are talking about 24p - NTSC and 25p - PAL.... Your frame rate suggests ("Frame rate : 29.970 fps") you've recorded outside of "creative movie mode" and instead, recorded in the standard interlaced (lower bit rate) format.
The GH2 records in i60 and i50 "interlaced" modes as well. Check your manual for the various modes.

To avoid this banding use the shutter 1/30 or shutter 1/25. Check it out.
 
i think its
30p in 60i NTSC
25 in 50i PAL

why wrapped in interlace? because avchd standards. its still progressive in a sense
 
1080 30p/60i is the exact same thing as 1080p @ 30 FPS. I love this new mode. Now I can record at 1080p @ 30 FPS and slow it down to 80% for mild slow motion, 720p @ 60 FPS slowed down to 40% for better slow motion, 720p @ 60 FPS slowed down and interpolated to 20% for super slow motion, and finally 1080p @ 24 FPS for high detail.

All of those formats will render perfectly to high bit rate 1080p @ 24 FPS. Adding 1080p @ 30 FPS is just as big a deal for NTSC people as 1080p @ 25 FPS is for PAL users. Thanks Panny! Still can’t wait for the hacked 1.1 firmware though.

I can confirm that you can switch back and forth between the new firmware and the hacked firmware. I just tested that on my GH2.
 
Good news regarding 25P! However, I was struck by the comment about black banding and pilpop's response to use 1/30 or 1/25 shutter speed to avoid this. Just to clarify: What shutter speeds actually cause this problem?
