Firewire Transfer Rate - HPX to MBP?

So I'm not sure if this has been discussed but I've been having problems with my 1394 transfer rate from my HPX to my new MBP.

I recently upgraded from an old iMac and I couldn't be happier but it seems that my transfer rate from my camera to my MBP is much slower than my old iMac. Before I could dump one 16gb card in just under 15 min but now it takes over 30 maybe even 45 minutes to dump a card. This seems ridiculous.

I must be doing something wrong or have a setting screwed up. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions?

That's definitely wrong... do you have multiple devices on the firewire bus? Are you trying to go through a splitter, or chained through a hard drive or anything like that?

The newer macs work much better with USB than the older ones did, so try doing a transfer with USB and see how it performs. Change from "1394 DEVICE" to "USB DEVICE" and try that.

The new MBP only has 800 so I have been going through a 600 to 800 adapter. I have also tried daisy chaining through a hard drive and got the same result. My understanding was that doing this would slow my transfer rate down but I didn't think it'd be by that much. Would a 600 to 800 cable be any different? I'll try the USB route and see how that goes.

Ok so I bought a 6pin to 8pin cable and did some tests. Looks like it takes about 27 mins to import a 16gb card no matter which way I do it. Came in through P2CMS through Ingest and Export and even tried dragging and dropping to drive.

This is faster than before using a 6pin to 8pin adapter but still seems slow. Is this right? Seems to me that it was much faster on my old iMac. Am I just tripping or???

For me, using my HVX200 or my HPX170 as a card reader is always slow, regardless of using FW 400 or 800. I have not tried USB yet, maybe I should?

I can transfer a 16GB P2 card on my MBP using the PCMCIA slot in 8 minutes. With the HPX170 as the card reader, closer to 30 minutes.
