Firewire to FCP Question

Shot some footage today and we're trying to dump P2 content via Firewire from HVX to iMac and Final Cut. We go through Log & Transfer and then click on P2. But once we put our clips onto the queue there is a red symbol telling us there's been an error. Does anyone know what's going on or what we could do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.

Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."

Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.

What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.

ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.

ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

I was the cam op and I didnt delete anything. I formatted the 2 cards just before shooting and shot all the way through til' both cards were full.

I'm not a Mac guy but seem to recall that certain characters in the folder names -- like pound signs ("#") -- can cause problems. Are there any weird characters in the name?

I'll be back on set tomorrow and I'll check but no crazy characters in the name that I could think of. I just have 7 clips that I wanted to transfer over but once in the queue all of them have a red symbol which is showing an error.

iMac for some reason presets issues.

Some reporting using a firewire hub makes it work.

Don't know if that's true.

Also, did you write protect the cards before mounting and cooying to the HDD?

And did you take Shane's advice and turn off REMOVE PULLDOWN?

got back from the shoot and the procedure worked again. Not sure what happened last time. And the process wasn't log and capture but import and then click on Panasonic P2. Now that I think of it, I remember the numbers on each clip were red and not black. Hopefully it will all continue to work. Thanks for the input.
