Fire!

One of my professors said that she thinks that my school could be shut down by the end of the week. I would imagine that evacuation would happen relatively soon after that.

If the fire does make it into the valley, that's going to be a lot of homes...

C-Sun? Whoa...

Are you serious?

im out of here guys. wish me luck on getting back to san diego and lets hope there is some let up soon. peace out.

the fire near my place changed direction, it's still pretty far off so i haven't felt the need to leave.

all my stuff is packed though, i'm ready for the beach!

dang guys this is crazy. our community is really amazing down here, lots of people donating stuff to the displaced.

they are estimating around 700,000 people have evacuated their homes.

Have you ever been asked to evacuate your home? My family has, as we speak in San Diego.

It's not easy.

Buddy, go...

I thought it sucked when I found out my parents house had caught fire and there was $80k in damage. When I walked through the wreckage of my old room, where it started due to counterfeit cord, I saw all my things from my youth melted, burned, charred, wet...books, CDs, stereo....persian rug, personal stuff. It felt like a kick in the stomach. I couldn't believe it.

The next month I watched a relative die while waiting for the ambulaqnce, and two months later I found my father collapsed...he died the next day. The insurance company tried cheating my mother (they did an additional $27k worth of damage), and the stress was huge. Eventually we got a guy with a tv show here involved...he rebuilt the entire interior of the house and put in all kinds of high end stuff...the work was worth twice as much as the $100k the insurance had to payfor it. Eventually we lost the family business after our landlord pulled a fast one, and had to sell a house that had been in the family for 47 years to cover massive debt.

In the end, I don't think of the quarter million dollars we lost nearly as much as the loved ones. One might take a long time to replace, but the other is gone for good.

Hard as it is, leave, and be safe.

There are prety good informative update threads running on www.fark.com right now. Text reports, maps, scanner links, etc..

Just scroll down the front page through the headlines and you'll find one on the California fires, it will probabaly have a [Follow up] tag.
The threads are so popular that they keep having to be closed and new ones created .. the latest thread is always closest to the top of the main page.

Wow. I cannot believe this is still going.

Hope everybody is still safe.

Brandon has the fire completely passed your area?

Yes, it's completely passed my area, and it's slowing down in that area, but it's tearing up Arrowhead, Big Bear, San Diego, Orange County, and Castaic.

A better perspective (from Sunday)

That's my house in the shot.
