True. Not counting it out yet and eagerly awaiting more footage and a chance to get my own blurple hands on it and see for myself.

If it had a crazy good encoder, its price would have been higher. Ninja seems promising. But why become early adopter? Wait and see. If time is ripen, get it at cheaper price. The best time to get GH1 was when GH13 project was in high gear around this spring. The price was below $1200. Never say neverI wasn't trying to put it into a context that the AF-100 codec was 'shameful,' but he definitely laid it out that he was 'limited' to shooting with it and it was really wanting to see the quality of the camera with a better codec. "Fine" is not the greatest word to describe something... it's saying... "adequate" at best.
You are only quoting the positive things he said.
But I thought you already had. Hence this thread. :undecided

GH2 - GH2 vs GH1.3 is the thread title - I have not played with the AF-100 personally.
Don't know about "crazy good", but the encoder in AF100 is certainly better. It has at least one additional encoder feature (CABAC) that the one in GH2 lacks. Make that two features (B frames + CABAC) over GH1. Where GH13 lacks the technical sophistication of newer models it can make up with raw [bitrate] power. We've got choices (some of them from unexpected quarters) and that's good!Ummm.. its price IS a lot higher. GH2 = $1000 AF-100 = $5000. Ummm sounds like that should include a "crazy good encoder" to me.
Public firmware release is one, but not the only method.I completely forgot about the donation. I did very little... Hehe. Hopefully free GH2 excites him to do some magic. But... don't we need at least one firmware to begin with? There is no solid deadline for future Panny lenses such as 25mm 1.4 and brighter zooms. When Panny releases a new firmware, if GH2 is hackable, given enough time to stabilize settings, GH2 is likely to be a lot cheaper...
Blackout, have you posted footage backing up your experience? Not questioning what you saw, but just getting to this thread and seeing 26 pages worth of posts. I'm not sure if I missed any footage posted backing your statements up. And I'm not talking about other people's stuff floating on vimeo. Speaking loudly about your experience is one thing, but a disclaimer needs to be put out there that your mileage may vary from mine. What is unacceptable to one person might be passable to another. I mention this for those on the fence and to make the point that when buying a camera it is best to do your own testing and not just make purchase decisions based on 26 pages of comments. Anyway, I urge everyone to keep an open mind until more footage is available that properly tests this camera.
Some should keep a open mind that the GH2 might not be as great as it "could" be....not yet anyways!rogar-BigGrin(DBG)
plus its not just "speculation" when there is a widely available selection of downloadable raw clips that show the issues with the GH2's codec....I too personally have been underwhelmed by nearly all clips ive seen thus far.
Folks are just as eager to defend the GH2 like the "second coming" also.
