GH3 Finally... A Worthy GH3 Cage?

Searched high and low. Can't find who actually makes this. I'm thinking it's got to be a Chinese company. Really want to get one but... don't want to pay the international shipping from the US if it's actually originating from China (since I'm in China for a bit).

If anyone happens to find out the company behind the company (so to speak), please post here!

Does anyone know if there's a cage that will fit the GH3 WITH the battery grip? Especially since the grip makes the tripod mount be off center, so all rail accessories are skewed.

If you sign up on the site for their email newsletter, they'll be sending out codes for $50 off when it's in stock. So $149, not too shabby.

This cage looks great. I can't really see anything wrong with it, seems very well thought out. They have a HDMI lock on the way which is definately needed.

No point if it doesn't accommodate the battery grip. I mean. Who's going to use a cage unless they plan long form takes?
Plus. I would not buy a cage unless the rest of the rig was well thought out.
1) How does the cage integrate with a shoulder support
2) How does the cage integrate with a stabilization component?
3) How do handle-grips look on it
4) Follow focus, rails ? etc etc.

I can understand the appeal, and if funds were unlimited I'd buy it. But. The problem I have is that bodies these days last a very short time. If you have a cage/rig that's very specifically geared to your GH1, it becomes obsolete the moment you get a GH2 and want to use the same cage/rig, or GH3, or GH5 etc.. Now, again, if money is not an issue, why not - it's nicer to have something that fits perfectly. But to me it's more practical to get a cage that's slightly larger or slightly less form-fitting, but that can be used with a whole bunch of camera bodies.

But for $150-$200, if you have the funds, this doesn't look too bad. I already have a cage that fits my GH3, though it's not been specifically designed for the GH3, so I'll pass on this one.

1, 2, 3, 4: It's a cage, not an entire support system. You mount the cage to whatever support system you want. Having said that, they've indicated they are coming out with a rail mount, handle, and other accessories specifically for this cage. But again, you can use ANY existing support system with this cage.

As to:

Really? You can take 5 seconds to swap a battery? Or do you shoot with one long continuous take? There's always the DC adapter and external battery option, which if you're using a shoulder support is what you should use anyway, as a back weight to add ballast.

More info on using external power is here.

1) Add a shoulder support in the same way you would add it to the camera. No difference.
2) Not sure what you mean about a stabilization component but you can mount any quick release plate to the cage just as you would the camera. No difference.
3) Add a handle to the top using the many threaded or cold shoe mounting option. I can imagine how it would look in my head. It looks OK and most importantly would function well
4) Attach the cage to the rails in the same way you would attach a camera to rails. No Difference

I have used the GH3 on 8-12 hour shoots using in lens IS and shooting around 3hours worth of footage and not run down the battery. The GH3 is one camera that doesn't really need a battery grip for the most part.

I agree that having a camera specific cage can seem a waste in this age of 'disposable' bodies. For $150, I think its worth it though as I don't want a massive cage to house a small camera.

It looks good and seems really well thought out - and definitely priced well. A couple of points I'd mention although it's hard to tell from the video : 1) Is there enough room on the left for outputs PLUS fingers for holding? 2)Does anyone know if you can use it with the flip out Varavon ex-supporter loupe? 3) Who makes that top handle - I tried to hear what he said..."shade" something ?" - I like the way it fits into the hotshoe mount. Also have to agree about the battery grip - I have used this camera all day shooting video not stills and would be lucky to use 2 batteries - a battery grip is not really needed for this camera.

Does anybody know if this could be used with a Nikon D7100? I think that the GH3 and the D7100 are very similar in size and shape and it would be great if i could adapt the cage to my Nikon.

The D7100 is very close in size to the D7000..... So there's this:

Seems to me like one issue may be the hot shoe piece that helps to stabilize the camera. Might not be enough clearance (or the right alignment) for it. And the two little pieces that stick out on the bottom in front. Those might be too far out to do any good because the D7100 is a little less deep.

Probably better to go with a different cage for the D7100.

It might fit but the hot shoe piece and the two blocks at the front may not work, as you pointed out. Still the price is very interesting and perhaps it could be adapted. Thank you for your advice.
