Final Cut Pro Hardware

like you know how pro tools have like boards & stuff to edit with. Does Final Cut Studio have those? I found something for Apple Color but thats it.

Yes there are some control surfaces that do certain things in FCP mostly through MIDI, but they are made by third party hardware makers, not Apple. That info is a google away for you.. Look for 'FCP Hardware Control Surfaces'

I went on google and looked, found some things over 1 thousand dollars but do you have any suggestions?

How much are you looking to spend to achieve what control?

I was just looking around. Id like a ballpark of prices. I know nothing about control boards and my buddy uses them on pro tools so I am looking to get one with Final Cut Studio.

What do you want to do? FCP is SOFTWARE ONLY. WOrks on a computer...the keyboard has all the controls, and then there is the mouse. This is how 95% of the editors work. There are third party companies that make keyboards with shuttle knobs, or separate shuttle knobs. But those aren't necessary. I have edited broadcast television for 12 years, and I haven't used one. Keyboard, mouse...that's it.

Then there is the hardware for capturing and outputting video. But, what do you WANT? a control surface for working within FCP? Bella Keyboard, Shuttle Pro...stuff like that. But not a requirement.

oh well I was looking for something for apple color - I read about something called the Tanget Wave that makes it easier to adjust colors & sound. Like I said I know nothing about this hardware. I make music videos so it might not even be needed.

Yeah...OK. Yes, the WAVE works in COLOR...but it doesn't adjust sound. No sound goes to Color. For sound you get a MIXER. But unless you are a professional colorist, you don't need the WAVE or other color interface. I do fine without it. It isn't necessary.

okay cool what MIXER do you suggest for sound?

I have the MC transport and MC Color

I dont really use the transport so much in FCP, but I find it more useful in color.

The MC Color though is a different experience - http://www.euphonix.com/artist/products/mc_color/

Heres how I equate the difference for me. Color, has multi controls that can be used simultaneously to achieve the desired look. Using the mouse and keyboard for the past (since the day Color was released with FCS) I thought I was doing okay. I certainly spent a lot of time working with it and understanding the effect of all the components, and trying to get the most out of it. Great. Then I used an MC Color and thought to myself oh crap, Ive been sitting at my desk with all the right paints, the right everything else and then using one finger to do all the painting.

Since using MC color I have found fine tuning components works best when you are working on more than one parameter at the same time. I can simultaneously adjust my shadows, mids and highlights at the same time. Not just a little bit here, a little bit there etc. Now instead of using the mouse and keyboard shortcuts, both hands are always working. At the very least this makes it much faster.

And since Euphonix is now owned by AVID, expect to see more announcements like this (from IBC) in the future http://www.avid.com/US/press-room/Avid-Announces-New-EUCON-Partners

Well, the mixer really is only for volume control. Unless you want a mixer that interacts with FCP. I have a small 6 channel Behringer mixer, because I have two decks that I need to hear volume from too. But if you want one that interacts with FCP and can adjust the audio levels when you do so on the sliders, look at the Tascam FW-1082.

Is there something that your keyboard and mouse doesn't do that a $500 or more control board will make eminently more useful?

Because there are a lot more useful things I would spend before a control board, ie. lighting, sound, faster Mac, RAM, HDD, etc.

That would depend on how and why you use it. See my last post. For me at least the MC Color makes a huge difference.
