Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 Just Released

Those new filters are your Motion filters, which FCP 5.1.2 will now recognize. And there is one little side benefit to these. Since these are Fx plugs, they are offloaded to your GPU. So, if you have a faster video card with more ram (I have a Radeon X800 on my Dual G5), you will render much faster since, like in Motion, the rendering is graphics card rather than CPU based. I suspect this is a little hint to what we will see in the next rev of FCP (and I can speculate since I am not under NDA and have absolutely no insider knowledge whatsoever... because if I did, I wouldn't even speculate in public).

I also just found that the left half of the window, you can drag the mid point, so that you can adjust which shows more, the list of clips to import, or the list of clips in the queue. For example, when ingesting, I drag it all the way up to monitor the progress of all my clips in the queue.

Sorry if I missed this, but I haven't found the answer.

Can you rename the first clip in your list (example - "clip 1") Then somehow have it rename the rest of the clips in the list in order, automatically giving it the same name with the next number? clip 1, clip 2, clip 3, etc...

Or can you only do it manually to each clip name?

You should be naming your clips at the Import stage. In the P2 Import and Log & Capture windows you can give a clip a name followed by a "1", and each Capture after that will change the number progressively. But to batch change names, I'd change one, highlight (including the empty space after the last letter of the name) and copy the name (not the number), then when you go to change each clip's name, just paste, and type the number. It's pretty fast.

Actually, when I was at Apple's offices in NYC a few months ago, they showed off Leopard's new grahpics engine, totally awesome, super powerful. They also made it very clear that all Pro apps would be utilizing this new grahics technology. Apple's pro apps have always relied on the technologies of the OS in this way. Which, in Leopard, is very GPU heavy from what I understood to have been told.

Apple took this month a license enclosure with MOG from Portugal, so future Final Cut Pro versions will have better MXF integrated technology.
