Final Cut Express HD & The HVX-200

The Professor
Up to this point, all my video work is in SD using a ScreenPlay editing system form Applied Magic. Nice system, BUT it will never do HD.

OK, if I get the iMac and use + Final Cut Express HD, will the "express" version support the P2 files?

...OR do I need to purchase the full version of Final Cut?

Thanks,

Bob Diaz

I believe Final Cut Express HD can edit DVCProHD if you install the codec, but it still won't understand P2/MXF files. You really want FCP 5.1.4 or later if you want to work with material from an HVX.

You need DVCProHD codecs to get anything to edit DVCProHD footage on a Mac.

Only FCP supplies those codecs. Notably, I can edit DVCProHD footage in iMovie '08

To clarify:

iMovie '08 will work with DVCProHD footage, but not 24fps and directly with 720p.

Express has always been limited to DV and HDV when it appeared.

iMovie, while an interesting paradigm in the latest version, is no where near either Express or Pro as a NLE.
