Filters for Lumix 7-14mm wide lens

i was looking at this lens recently and was wondering the same.

id go for the DIY method, id stick a line of 6mm foam around the filter and just let the compression of the foam grip it inside the built in lens hood.

easy, clean, fast!

ps: it might not work tho  gotta love DIY for wonder.

The trick I see with any option though, is keeping the filter/filter holder out of the image. This lens in particular is a tough one to do that with.

ahh good point! hadn't thought of that.

the 7mm is so wide it nearly gets the back of your head in

Notice also that the built in hood does not extend as far on the sides as it does on the top/bottom. Probably because if it did, it would show up. Easily tested of course, bt no time at the moment.

Use step-up rings to make an adapter to slide over the lens shade from the back of the lens:

Start with a 72-77 mm. Have the lens off the camera and slide the step up ring over the lens until it grips tightly over the lens shade. Then add a 77-82mm, a 82-95mm and a 95-105mm. Then a 105mm filter will screw on and press against the lens shade. This will help keep the assembly in place. This should give you about 3mm filter depth until it vignettes in 16x9 mode. I'll have a slim mount ND filter in a few days to test with and I'll let you know what happens.

I had originally tried it with a 95mm standard filter and it would vignette at between 8 and 9mm.

In this day and age you would think pana could make a fast lens say 10-18 that does not cost more than the camera,i know good lenses are expensive but i can not and never will see the value compared to the engineering in the actual cams like GH2s.

The 105mm B+W Slim ND filter works fine. I had to move the step-up rings further up the lens because the glass on the slim filter is further back related to the threads. This leaves almost zero leeway before it vignettes. But the whole assembly works great and it uses cheap off the shelf parts - except for the filter... Now I just need a 105mm slip-on lens shade.
