Filter for my Tokina 11 16

The lens is very wide so I don't think you need a filter. 11 is so wide your'e going to have to deal with vignetting. Try the light craft workshop fader nd

Since I know absolutely nothing about matte boxes, I'm just crazy enough to suggest a matte box with an oversize filter that fits in front of the Tokina 11 - 16mm lens.

Kind of like crop dusting with a 747.

Is there any such thing?

I can use two Hoya ND-4's at 13mm with no vignetting. I can also get away with one ND-4 and a Hoya Cir-Polerizer at about 14mm. At 16mm I can run all three. This covers from no filter in dark conditions to snow and bright sun at about F/11 and 1/60 shutter. It's a pretty reasonable work around that covers most every thing I wish to do with the 11-16.

If you add a step up ring and run 82mm filters you can put on 4 of them if I'm not mistaken. It's costly, but you just buy one or two at a time and work up. The matte box and films is not very efficient for cost, weight, aero-dynamics and bulk when on a stabilizer where I use the 11-16 most often. The thin screw on Hoya's seem to be the perfect combo for a bunch of my lenses including my Tokina 11-16, 24mm L and 70-200 L.

Cheers,
Pete
