GH2 Feature shot on hacked GH2

Great stuff. Obviously some really nice camera work. But even more important, it appears from this short clip that you've got a great story, with a solid script and some good actors. Did you write it as well? Best of luck getting it finished!

WOW... mind blown. I've said it before and I will continue to say it, the GH2 hands down with the right treatment provides the most cinematic image out of any DSLR, every pro video camera under 20k aside from RED. It simply has that look. Amazing job, seriously. This totally gets me pumped as hell to do my own feature.

The lead actor looks and sounds kind of like the guy who played Chet's brother in Weird Science. The trailer looks awesome and the acting seems to be top notch. I'm very impressed at what you've managed to accomplish. Can you go provide some more details about the lighting? Anyway, pat yourself on the back. It's amazing what you were able to achieve with a bare bones crew and that little camera.

Beautiful pictures aside, I would totally watch that just for the actors and the story. Best of luck wrapping everything up!

Usually when I watch these sorts of things, I just marvel at the images. However, I totally forgot why I came and was swept up by the story. I would definitely watch this, and not just because it was shot on a camera that is so easily in my grasp. Very well done.

Very impressive. Do you plan to regrain it? The only thing I didn't like about the picture quality was the blocky grain.

None of the footage has been denoised or worked yet. I've done some tests with RGrain and really like what I see. I'm not sure what we'll end up doing yet, it just depends on how everything looks once we get further into post.

The dialog sounded a little flat and empty. Could probably use some tweaking by an audio guru.

There's nothing worse than hollow, empty sounding dialogue! There's definitely a lot of work to be done on the audio. Some of our locations were less than ideal from a sound standpoint (parallel walls, low ceilings, hardwood floors, etc), and we were very pressed for time most days. My background is as a recording/mixing engineer, so I'll definitely be spending a considerable amount of time on dialogue cleanup and sound design. All of the audio in the teaser is raw.

Can you go provide some more details about the lighting?

As we get out of shooting and I have some more time I'll do some scene lighting breakdowns. Our lighting kit consisted of:

Cool Lights LED600
(2) Cool Lights LED256
(2) Cool Lights CDM150
China ball
Reflectors
Small set of flags
Blackwrap

We used practicals and natural light to our advantage whenever possible, often just changing out bulbs to get the right color temp or intensity.

But even more important, it appears from this short clip that you've got a great story, with a solid script and some good actors. Did you write it as well? Best of luck getting it finished!

I wish I would have written this script! It really is a fantastic story, and is very well written. The scope is huge with nearly fifty locations and dozens of characters, and there's a nice balance of humor and emotion. The director and producer (both of whom are leads in the film) wrote the script almost 8 years ago about their experiences as struggling actors in LA, and have been trying to get it made ever since. Their talent, and that of the rest of our motley crew has come together in an amazing way.

I like where you are going with those. With the exception of the first sunset shot, almost everything in the teaser is straight out of camera. The one thing that I don't like about the GH2 (and it's exasperated by using LED lights!) is the green shift. I've begun shooting my other projects with a white balance a couple of notches towards magenta in camera, but am finishing out this film without that to keep a consistent look.

After some tests, I'm very happy with how the footage takes grading. There's a decent amount of latitude there, and I tried to get pretty close in camera. Everything definitely needs a little shift towards magenta though.

Phenomenal in all aspects. Yeah, sound needs a little work, but you can tell that all the aspects of a good recording are there. The hollow, echoing shots on the stage at first (because you can't see the stage) in the trailer sounded off, but when you see the stage, it makes sense to me and with a tiny tweaking will work great. It gives it a stage production kind of feel. Just great lighting and shots, and great acting. All the stuff needed for a great little indie hit. Keep up the great work!

Congratulations. Very nice photography, actors and story. Do not expect better quality from Canon C300 maybe latitude but I am sure you are able to work spot on the exposure and that is what digital is there for us to check the exposure and redone it but for me I almost get everything ok from first take with this little one. I do not go higher than 160 iso and no grain appears using fast and good quality lenses.
Looking forward for the final film.

I would say the C300 is obviously a superior camera in almost every single way, but to my eyes the GH2 produces far more "film-like" images. C300 / FS100 and the like are just a tad bit too plasticy / "overly real" which doesn't help your audience suspend disbelief imo. If you're willing to jump through some hoops and don't mind fiddling, the Gh2 is still the best bet for making a film... look like a film.

Just came across this project... Wow. Like many others have said I lost track of the usual 'this camera shot that' and fell in love with the story. Is there an expected date of release? I really want to watch this now. Great looking image, Great acting and a compelling script. I can't wait to see more.

I too became invested in the trailer from the story instead of the cinematography (which was incredible). I just got my gh2 last week and am still learning how to operate the camera. This has given me some extra motivation.
Fantastic job!
