GH2 Feature shot on hacked GH2

Here's the first teaser for a feature I'm just wrapping up DPing on the hacked GH2 (with the Quantum V100 patch). Shot with a bare bones crew, sometimes down to just actors, a sound mixer, and myself. Lighting is primarily practicals and LED panels, and 99% of the film is shot on the Tokina 11-16, Voightlander 25, rokinon 35, and Sigma 50.

Most of the teaser is ungraded or just passed over quickly, and sound is still all over the place. We just wanted to put something together to raise some more funds for post and to get more of a birds eye view of how everything is shaping up.

Feedback greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the comments! I shot about two thirds of the film on a combination of a Gini shoulder rig, sticks, a monopod, slider, Kessler jib and shuttle pod, and Glidecam rigs. About a third was actually shot with the bare camera (using the viewfinder), but only with the Tokina or occasionally the voightlander 25. It's possible to get useable footage if you can control your bounce as you walk (I knew years of marching band would someday come in handy) and spend time practicing.

I really love the image that the GH2 puts out, but I'm going to shoot my next project on the C300 because of the increased dynamic range, the ability to use the fantastic 70-200 IS II w/ stabilization, the great codec and post workflow, and better highlight handling. The GH2 is still the camera I own that I'll reach to first over the 5DmkII and 7D, and is good enough that I can wait a few product cycles before upgrading.

Simply amazing my friend! I can't wait for my GH2 to arrive tomorrow. What did you use to record the audio? It's crystal clear.

Thanks guys. Audio was primarily a boomed Rode NTG-3 w/ a Rode Blimp into a Tascam DR-680. We also used Sennheiser wireless systems with Rode pin mics a few times, and an Avantone CK-1 in a few indoor locations. Pictures style was smooth with everything set to -2.

OK, this is rare for me. It kept me right until the end. If you put the whole thing together and have this much going for it, I foresee a fantastic project for you!

Good luck !!!!

really awesome. I really forgot that this was shot with gh2. Which means the content really interests me. Anyway, really nice color grading and it looks superb!!

Really great work. I was wrapped up into the trailer more than looking at technical aspects of the picture. It looks great and I love what you have achieved with this camera.

Heh, I don't know if a C300 would be any better....Probably easier from a rigging, sound perspective perhaps.
I have not seen anything from the C300 that can match what I have seen you do with the GH2.

It looks gorgeous! I am stunned and shocked at what you managed to do with a GH2! And heck, the sound, even as is, is still better than on a lot of indie productions...

I have no idea about the film itself overall, I'd have to actually see it in its entirety once it's finished, but from a TECHNICAL point of view, you nailed it, no doubt about that.

Very impressive. Do you plan to regrain it? The only thing I didn't like about the picture quality was the blocky grain.

Also thank you for posting this, I am going to work on a feature/long short this summer and I find this very inspiring to see the capabilities that are available with this camera when the cinematographer is putting a lot of effort into the picture!
