FD to EOS

From wide angle adapter/converter.
I Also removed mounts from the my miranda lenses ,im not sure if theres even adapter for them to EOS ,so i bought eos camera cap ,made a hole in it and glued lens without mount to it, it works.I guess you could do that with some FD lenses too.Apterture doesnt work tho,i have to control it by wires,quite primitive but thats all i can do for now.
Because prime lens is just basically a tube with glass which needs to be moved closer to the sensor for infinity focus so youve got to get rid of mount and make your own,you can even get past infinity(have it too close to the sensor a bit) ,it doesnt have to be super measured ,its not a problem,unless you rely heavily on lens numbers/marks of course.
You can find some plano-concave lenses on surplusshed website but i prefere to replace mount.

I just bought and converted 24mm FD lens to EOS mount using camera cap and it works,its not that hard ,hardest part is to cut EOS cap good enough so lens wont be sharp in one corner and out of focus in other corner.

I think its worth it,cap is only 2 pounds in uk,thats like 3 dollars and you have working lens,but to close aperture you would have to use some trick with thread/wire.
Some lenses like 24 or 50mm 1.4 are worth to convert,you can always reassemble it to its previous state and remove the glue.
 
I have a friend whose done this...unacceptable levels of edge softness, falloff, etc. Insanely soft...unuseable at large apertures. He was on the 5D so it might be a little better on the 7D. You can do it for an effect but know that technically it will be crap...and to many eyes it will look that way.

Im doing this with some m42 lenses , i moving them away from sensor a bit and then adding plano-concave lens to make them a bit wider because i dont quite like this 1.6 crop ,so i can have 1.4 or less,depens how far i put lenses from each other and from sensor.

M42 should adapt to EOS just fine without extra optics...adding optics to make them seem wider is just gonna wreck the optical quality, especially on the edges.
 
I know i have eos to m42 adapter but wanted to have wider FOV thats why i experimented with distance and plano-concave lens.

Your friend did what ? Removing mount doesnt change quality never ever.You dont do anything with glass ,you just moving lens closer thats it.It works normally without any quality loss.
You would get the same thing moving sensor back a bit ,how this would affect quality in any way ?
Writing such stuff that you will lose quality is only discouraging people,its not true,its because of statements like that i never tried to do this because i read that someones friend had a friend who did that and bla bla quality loss not worthy.Its not true.

Was referring to this. Misread your statement though. He added optics between the lens and the camera, which is the only way to get focus on FD lenses to my knowledge.
 
With optics its soft i agree(but not terriby soft) ,on the corners and sides,But it depends how big your plano-convex lens is... and achromat could fix some softness.
But its very possible to just replace the mount temporary like i did and it works ,im glad i did it just to give it a try,i just posted this to let other guys know that its possible and dont be afraid to try,camera cap costs almost nothing and you wont find 24mm f1.4 lens that easily.

All you need to do is cutoff eos body cap first like that:

And then cut it more so only plastic EOS mount would stay,here it sits in the camera body,you can check if its quite smooth so lens wont be tilted when glued :

If you wont like it,you can unglue it and assemble your lens back to its original form.
Its very easy to do and costs as much as EOS camera body cap + glue .
Or you can keep your FD lenses deep in the basement and never use them.

There is no possibility to lose quality from converting it like that BUT there is a chance that you will get uneven focus plane if lens will be tilted a bit when glued.So one corner would be in focus and opposite corner would be a bit softer,but its more of a problem on 5D full frame sensor not 550D/60D/7D.
