Hi guys i have just purchased a GH1 to compliment my two 7d's and have been looking into purchasing some FD glass for the GH1.

So i have bought the FD canon 50mm f1.4 but i also need something with a bit more reach on it.

I have the chance to purchase a fd canon 80-200 f4L for $200. just wondering what your thoughts are on this lens and whether this would be a good deal. will be primarily used for video

cheers

I have a Tokina 80-200mm f2.8 (FD mount) that I got from B&H that works great. Very long zoom (because of the 2x crop factor on the GH1/2). I just finished a week-long shoot where about half was shot on that lens, and it works great. Do keep in mind that the GH1 has a 2x crop factor, where the 7D has a 1.6x crop factor.

Have you hacked your GH1?

Is there a reason you're using fd lenses? FD lenses don't adapt well to the 7d (the adapters use glass and lose you some light) . I would recommend nikon lenses as they can be easily adapted to the gh1 and the 7d both. Also fd lenses don't necessarily match up with EOS glass just BC they are Canon. Also I'm pretty sure you can pick up many similar lenses for similar prices in Nikon f mount.

I had heard that there was an EF>FD adapter ring that had no glass?

yes i will be hacking my GH1, just waiting for it to arrive here in Australia.

the canon fd 80-200L was just going to be primarily used with the GH1, I have a series of new lenses for the 7d's. However, now that you mention it it would be good to have glass that works well on both.

i'm aware of the x2 crop factor of the GH1... the GH1 was primarily purchased for the wedding work we do. Idea is to have the GH1 up the back of the church/ceremony filming continuously with the two 7d's up the front working around the 12minute time limits. Also were going to use the GH1 for filming some sport. So we obviously need it for the reach.

so the tokina 80-200 f2.8 sounds not bad but i don't know a whole lot about nikon lenses. If i could get a f2.8 with that kind of reach and around the $200 price range that would work well with the 7d's i'd be all for it. any suggestions??....

probably want the colour on all three cameras to match as much as possible as well.

Could you put a link to the Tokina?
