FCPX help and answers

Apple support told me that all I could do is email iTunes support because they handle app store purchases. Maybe I can get my money back for angry birds rio too.

Question: how are you suppose to archive this stuff? The file structure seems completely weird to me.

I started this thread so we could help each other figure out FCPX not to complain or convince people to switch to another NLE. I have my compaints and issues with it as well, but I'm trying to keep that talk in other threads. Let's try to keep this a help/answer thread. Thanks.

I agree Brian. It was a sound idea and it's a pity that yet again on DVXUser we all get this "noise" or FUD. It's the main reason I've more or less stopped using and contributing to this DVXUser Forum (compared to others I use heavily) as on here seems much more prone to threads being hijacked by people with their own irrelevant and self-opinioniated agendas... Real shame really as there are some great people on here with lots of great tips to share. None of us want to wade through the Cr$p to find it though.

So can we keep to Brian's original request please - let's all help each other figure out FCPX so we can share and learn what it's good at, what it's not (and possible workarounds) and then make informed choices about what's best for our own needs NLE wise on Macs.

Sorry for the rant...

Sorry for the rant...

No need to apologise.

I think lot's of people are afraid of the new - they've learned one way, and so it can be the only way. Yes this new FCPX will take some getting used to, but it will be months before I actually use it on a production - why would I abandon FCP7 that I know inside out, to use an unknown on the day it arrives?

So hopefully we can help each other with tips and tricks, because I'm sure there are lot's of hidden gems in there - and as the updates come in the coming weeks all of this will go away.

Remember when (GASP) Panasonic moved from tape to P2 cards? You'd have thought the world was ending.

I have not downloaded this app, but I do have a question that maybe someone can help me with.

Let's say that I have a 23.98 timel ... um ... storyline. But I have a shot of a plate falling to the floor that I shot in 59.97. Normally I would send that file to Cinema Tools and Conform the footage. But there is no CT now, correct? So let's just slow it down in FCPX. Let's see, my choices are 50%, 25%, and 10%. So how would I slow this footage down cleanly to 40%?

Clip on the clip in the timeline. Go to clip in the menu bar and click conform and it will automatically set it to the right speed. Or you can right click the clip and do time remap and drag the bar until it is at 40%

This thread is directed towards "FCPX Help and Answers."

It's not about switching editing applications or operating systems.

Please stay on topic.

I was wondering it my GForce 8800 card is compatible with FCPX? That being said I am not sure if I will get this or not as I actually do not like editing in iMovie. I prefer a window view over a filmstrip view any day!

please...anyone?

please...anyone?

I unchecked everything in the import process, just want clips in the media browser to explore. But all clips are dark and playback dark, with no color settings applied to them. What gives?

I'm having the exact same problem. the clips look normal in thumbnail view but as soon as i scrub over them they turn dark and contrasty, as though a lut had been applied. they are also dark in the timeline.

My clips are from both a gopro and a 5dm2 and the problem is the same if i transcode the clips to prores as well.

if it's a gamma problem does anyone know a solution?

thanks in advance,
Bg

Iam having a problem importing p2 cards to fcpx..using p2 card reader it imports and gives error message on every clip..same with importing from fire store any one with solution?

Yes it is. My MacBook Pro has a GForce 8600 and it works fine.

Can someone help with me keyframing and animation, it's a nightmare for me right now. I can't drag or shift+click to select multiple keyframes to slide things at once. I can't get a close-up view of my keyframing without zooming in really far to the timeline (a dedicated keyframe editing window like in FCP7 or Premiere?).

It also seems the feather option is gone under the "crop" options for standard clip transforms. There is a "crop & feather" effect but it only allows you to adjust overall width & height, not crop left or crop right, which makes it useless for getting a soft feather edge on specific PiP effects that are trimmed.

Also it's very frustrating having to do all of this on the timeline because every time you click or misclick it moves the playhead, which is obnoxious if you have it positioned where you want it (I want to position playhead to the beat of the song, and then just slide down 4 keyframe parameters but I can't).

Also, moving the playhead on a parameter that has other keyframes, and then changing a value does NOT add a new keyframe (like After Effects and other apps) it just messes up the ones around it?

Also, editing audio waveforms. Is there a quick way to make the waveform big for a clip when you expand it without changing the entire timeline's view (especially since there is no keyboard shortcut to change the entire timeline's view)

And is there a way to stop a click in the timeline from also changing the playhead, FCP7 did not work like this and it is driving me crazy. I also cannot quickly access parameters from the keyframing interface on the timeline if I want to add a new one, I have to go to the inspector, drill back and find the paramater and add a keyframe from there to get it show up and animate in the timeline. You'd think you could just double click on it right from the timeline and it would fly the inspector there.

Think I found a bug in FCPX. I can't seem to replicate it tho. I had 2 clips in the Storyline with a "fade to color" transition and I was messing around up in the inspector for the second clip and the clip disappeared in the storyline. I can still use the Skimmer and go over where the clip was and still see it in the viewer, but it's no longer in the Storyline, weird.

Edit: It was fixed with a restart of FCPX
