FCPX help and answers

I wanted to start this thread so we can have one place for questions and answers only with nothing else mucking up the thread. I hope this will be a place we can teach one another and help one another work our way thru this new program. Thanks.

The first question I have is about the "scratch disk". In FCP7 I always changed my "scratch disk" for every project, and so far I'm not finding a way to do it efficiently within FCPX. Do we have to do it in Finder?

Read somewhere that there is NOT a universal Scratch disk folder. Each Project can have it's assets placed assigned individually. Not sure how this works, but it's fundamentally different than FCP7.

Did Apple release any tutorials or anything education for Final Cut X? I'd love to learn it from the ground up considering I don't have a lot of editing experience.

The FCPX icon will replace the FCP7 icon in the dock, but FCP7 will still be in your aplications folder, so don't worry they are both still on there.

I unchecked everything in the import process, just want clips in the media browser to explore. But all clips are dark and playback dark, with no color settings applied to them. What gives?

interestingly though...you cannot run FCP 7 & FCP X at the same time even though the are completely different programs and both should be independent of each other.

Maybe they want you to forget the old ways, with no side by side comparison!

maybe someone might want to attemp to reconstruct something from the old into the new. what better way that using Expose to get quick looks back and forth? seems logical but then again there isnt much logical from a professional sense with this new version of FC.

I don't think I've ever wanted to hug a computer program before but I came pretty close when I opened up FCP7 again.

If I had to guess, I'd say that along with abandoning Quicktime they've also abandoned the 2.2 gamma in favor of something else.
