FCP updates & P2 compatibility

Although I searched for answers for the following information, I didn't find them. If they have already been answered here, please point me in the right direction. If available elsewhere in the WWW, I like links too!

We're using the HVX200 in our Documentary course, and students edit in our lab with FCP running on dual-processor PPC G5's, currently running FCP 5.0.4. We've had the P2 Driver installed on the machines and can import via our P2Stores....

...but We only have the ability to import selected (or all) clips in a small import pop-up list.

However, on my personal machine running FCP 5.1.2, when importing via the P2Store, I get a nice, full-featured Login window pop-up with transport controls, a viewer, and logging capabilities to rename the clips to taste verses the numerical non-sense. I have also installed the P2Store driver on my personal machine, but I can't verify if this has been done on our lab machines.

So... the question(s) is/are:

Is the full-featured P2 import window in FCP available with installation of the P2 Store driver and P2 Driver regardless of FCP version, or is it available only with the 5.1.2 FCP update, or are all required?

What you're seeing was implemented with the recent release of FCP 5.1.2 and wasn't available until after IBC in Amsterdam.
 
okay, so if I'm understanding you correctly, this is an FCP upgrade feature, and is independent of the Panasonic Driver software?
