I just switched over to an XH A1 from a dvx. I am editing with FCP 5.1.4 and Log and capture is not finding the camera any thoughts?

under which menu easy set up? I have been monkeying around would you mind giving me a step by step, I shot in 24f.

I am getting the deck to play from the computer but nothing comes up on the computer screen. Am i supposed to choose 108i50 60 because I shot in 24?

Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup

Change the format to HDV and your framerate to 23.98. If you are running FCS 2 then the sequence will conform to the footage automatically.

And make sure the A1 is in VTR mode (though I'm sure you already know this...)

Edit: Just saw you were in 5.1.4. Hm...if the above doesn't work, then try this:

Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video settings

Sequence Preset: HDV 1080p24
Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: HDV Firewire

Then create a new sequence and it will be ready for the 24f footage

F#$% I am still having trouble. I know I am an idiot but I am dying over here.
Under easy set up I choose HDV 1080p24?

Audio/Video settings
Under sequence preset HDV 1080p24 ?

under capture preset HDV ?

Device control preset HDV fire wire?

under capture preset tab at the top of the page several options have a lock next to them HDV is one?

Noah, I've had the very same issue ever since getting an A1 -- and I'm on the latest FCP. In our studio we have 7 FCP stations, all of which recognize the A1. My home bay does not and nobody can figure it out.

Nutty thing is that my PowerBook (G4), which is FCP HD, recognizes the A1. My G5 desktop does not, despite trashing the system files and everything else you're supposed to do.

There is a get-a-round, however. Use iMovie to capture from the A1. Don't know why, but it recognizes the camera instantly. (Atleast for me.) Then import the .mov files into FCP.

Not a perfect solution but hope it helps.

That does work. What is with that? Any tricks other tricks you have are welcome. Thanks

Give me your system specs, including your firewire daisy chain.

What is your scratch disk? Firewire 400? 800? SATA? What port is it plugged into? What port is the camera plugged into?

Have you tried changing ALL of your presets to HDV and then opening a new project?

And, just because you are being vague, why all the question marks in response to my post? Click on the Final Cut Pro tap on the top left of the screen, and do what I told you. Slow down, type up some real words, and help us help you :)

I am editing on fcp 5.1.4 I am using a fire wire 400 from the computer port to the HDV/dv port on the camera. My scratch disk was set to my external Hard drive. I have tried changing all presets to HDV and opening a new project. I tried installing Final Cut express and it still did not read the camera. But of course I movie read it just perfect. I am stumped. the question marks were placed in before i read your post, in hopes I was doing the right thing.

Thanks so much for your help.

I am using an I mac G5 os leopard. The camera and hard drive are on seperate firewire connections I tried switching them around.

Thanks for your help

Been running into the issue as well. We have 19 A1s, and countless FCP systems, all running 6.0.1 (I believe. It's at least 6.0)

Every now and then, one camera will be recognized by one FCP, while another one will not. I can then move that camera over to a different machine, and it will work fine. I have gone through every setting on both the cameras and the FCP systems multiple times. I can set up 2 FCP systems exactly the same, take 2 A1s set up exactly the same, use the same tape, and still run into this.

I've never seen anything like it before.

I apologize for double posting, but I just realized you shot in 24F. My understanding was that FCP didn't start supporting 24F untill 6.0.

Yes, I believe that is correct also.

Try a different frame rate and see what happens.

I have FCP 6.0 and running into the same issue, FCP will not recognize the camera. I've tried all settings, nothing. Very frustrating. I usually dump to Firestore but this one time had to dump to tape. Very disappointed.
