FCP, DVCPROHD, and Mac Mini compatability?

Does anyone know if a Mac Mini loaded with FCP would be able to capture streaming DVCPROHD from an HVX200?

(The reason for not using a Mac Book Pro is due to the space restraint of mounting the system in a very small remote vehicle and having the ability to wireless capture hours of footage at a time to a slaved HDD.)

Yes. Am I crazy? I was thinking of purchasing a MacMini to give it a try. What do you think? It seems to have the horsepower, but I'm no Mac expert....

Wireless capture to a Mac Mini? Nothing I can think of that would make that a reality. Just get 32GB P2 cards and be done with it.

Why wireless? Is the HVX in the vehicle with the Mini? Wireless aside, it's absolutely
possible. The mini has about the same HP as the Imac,

It just doesn't make sense to put down all this money on the HVX and than skim on the Mac .

The Mini has the power and if you run a 17 inch monitor it will perform better. It also will run on 12volts because thats what its power adapter is. It has to be set up right but people have used it in mobile situations. Not sure about the wireless setup. Someone on this list once talked about having one mounted to his tripod to capture HD live while filming but can't remember who.

Maybe by "wireless" he simply means, that this HVXmacmini setup, will just be put on "record" without further controll, like conecting to a mixer...?
Just an independent longterm recording unit...

I have Mac mini (Custom) installed in my excursion with two 37" Monitor since last year. Not problem at all

But Wireless capture? ... Don't know

Mac mini power supply is here:

And if you are talking about Wi-Fi, be aware it is blocked by water. Based on your name, I assume you're talking about a submersible...

Yeah, thanks guys! So I'm not interested in 'capturing' wireless, I just would like to be able to control the Mac Mini from another computer, like my MBP from about 40 feet away without the use of internet or hard wires. We will be in a remote area without WiFi of any kind.

So, is Screen Sharing possible between two macs without iChat or any other outside WiFi support? We will be putting the Mac Mini with the HVX200 on a little remote control boat and driving it around in the middle of the ocean..... Maybe I should leave this discussion to a Mac forum???

We all thought you wanted wireless video. I talk to my mac guru and we both believe if you install remote desktop on your MBP (Sending side) and turn on the remote desktop on the Mini (built into OSX) it will work if you use a 8.02.11g or newer wireless router plugged into your MBP. Routers are cheap these days and you would have to buy Remote Desktop to get the sending side of the program.

The MBP is the weakest link in the process for the wireless so you will have to use a wireless router. If you were using a desktop you probably wouldn't need a router at 40 feet but its better to be safe with the MBP. This way you could probably get 500 feet from the mini and still see and control its desktop.

Go to an apple store and talk to them. We set up remote desktop use in homes that are sometimes a 150 feet apart that goes through walls and it works just fine. In a open space on the water it seems like it would work if the water was fairly calm.

Good Luck!

If you have leapard installed on both machines you can share screens without having to install other programs. Here's an article. It gives you several options.

Also Chicken of the VNC is a free alternative to Remote Desktop. But if it's a short distance you can also try Bluetooth.
