FC Express

Hi, I just bought the 7D and don't have another grand to drop on FCP, nor do I know whether I will want to once I can afford to. So I was wondering if getting FC Express is a bad idea.

Also, is Cinema Tools the only way to slow footage down shot in 60fps?

You can find FCP on auction websites for like around $500-$600

FCE will work, as long as you don't shoot at 24fps. FCE only supports 30fps (29.97), and perhaps 60fps (59.94) in HD.

To slow 720p60 down, simply drop it into a regular 30fps (29.97) time line and it will automatically play at 50% speed.

That said, FCP is a much more capable program, and a better investment in the long run. You'll have more flavors of frame rates and HD codecs, whereas FCE is extremely limited.
