Favourite Sci-Fi movie!

I think GB is a romance Dave. I mean, the entire plot is about Bill meeting Sigourney, trying to charm her, losing her and then having to rescue her.

LOL

And Dave, we're going to have to agree to disagree. This film doesn't resemble anything close to science fiction for me. Not an iota. I wont call Golf a sport and I surely am not calling GB SCIFI.

And you can't make me.

Take that.

Ka Chaw !

I wouldnt say it is necessarily the "BEST", but it's my favorite.

Sorry Mike

Dave started it.

Still Close Encounters for me. Something magical about that film. Except my version would have been baaaaaaaad aliens in the end.

Muahahahah

Star Wars all the way. then:
Matrix
Aliens
5th Element
Blade Runner
Dune
Predator
Total Recall
but really.. the original Star Trek TV series schools them all.

Damn nice list.

Sans the Star Trek. Never got that show.

Now make me a Star Trek with a more Han Solo type space pirate adventurer and I'm game.

Buck Rogers the series was fun in a real bad tv way.

I somehow stumbled across a website that had the old Buck Rogers series... it may have been metacafe, but I was very tempted to watch but couldnt bring myself to.

That was a weekly ritual to watch that, though. Biddy-biddy.

Yo, can I get some love for XTRO in the house?

Primer
2001
12 Monkeys
Time Bandits

I too always have problems categorizing Star Wars as true Sci-Fi. I mean, you could take the whole thing, set it in a mining town in W. Virginia, and have exactly the same story without missing a beat. I love it, but it's just not true Sci-Fi to me. I like Sci-Fi where the Sci is integral to the story.

Same with Alien or Aliens. Love them, but the first is a haunted house in space and the second could swap lions for aliens and be about the same.

i missed the whole debate so i just wanted to throw this in there:

At the 1985 Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Awards, Ghostbusters won the Saturn award for best Fantasy film.

my brother and i just had a similar debate about Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Is it a western? IMDB says it is. #3 in the top 10 even. My brother says it isn't.

A Square is ALSO a Rectangle my boys.
Jimerson, I'm with you.

Although as my brother adam pointed out, I wouldn't call Treasure of the Sierra Madre a Western. It's a Thriller that takes place in the West...so, I dunno Hudson. Maybe you and I see thing similarly.
BUT! I wouldn't be ENTIRELY opposed to calling it a Western Thriller...

So, to recap:
GB: Comedy, Sci-Fi.
TotSM: Thriller, Western, BAD*SS

It's OK, John. You can refuse to call a wheel round, too. We're all brothers.
