GH4 Favorite Lenses for the GH4

Really love my Lumix 25mm f1.4. A bit tighter than my old 20mm f1.7 but in every other way a better lens. Well except for the price of course.

A lot of people poopoo the 14-140mm but it really is a workhorse lens for outdoors work. Sometimes there are projects where changing lenses and fussing with extra gear is not an option. Even for vacations I tend to prefer having my 14-140 with me because with one lens I really can almost do it all. If one has to do the kind of work where traditional video cameras shine then the 14-140 is impossible to beat by any other single lens super zoom option out there. For me the 14-140 is perfectly suitable all the way up to the end of dusk before it gets dark out. Once nighttime hits it is an issue but thats what the primes are for. I have considered buying the two f2.8 zoom options but if I am shooting the kind of project where I have time to swap lenses then I would just rather use primes anyway. For me the whole point to having a zoom is being able to quickly change my fov to get the shot. I either want a super zoom that can do it all or just use primes.

Hi Thomas

Does you have micro jitter in your 14-140 II lens? I mean when you shoot stationary clip handheld image is still but has some little fast vibration generated by OIS. I have seen that micro jitter in so many 14-140 II videos and with my lens too that it must be a property of that lens. It is very disturbing when first recognized and then seen all the time in every clip.

I inherited 3 Leica summicron M mount lenses 35, 50 and 90 mm. They work really well on the gh4 and with focus peeking I can even nail the focus during sports events. Unfortunately the focus throw is just too short for narrative work. OIS would be nice too ;)

I have the older 14-140 lens which was much cheaper buying it used compared to buying the new one. I'm not sure I really like the new 14-140 very much. I have heard it isn't as good. I will stick with my tried and true older gen 14-140 for now.

With that said I hardly ever shoot video hand held. I am either on a tripod, monopod, shoulder mount, or pocket dolly so I wouldn't normally see as much vibration as those who shoot handheld anyway.

My ultimate kit would be:

- Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6
- Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
- Sigma 24-105mm f/4
I would just find a used Canon 24-105. They are very common because Canon put them with so many bodies in kits and people sell them off. It's a great lens. I think you can get one for under $700 in mint condition.

I have no experience with this lens, but I see a lot of claims that the sigma 24-105 is better than the canon - is there any reason other than possibly price to prefer the canon over the sigma?

I haven't tried it and the reviews I've read are that it's not better but more of a wash so saving some cash might be, well, worth it.
