GH4 Favorite Lenses for the GH4

Hello everyone, just wondering what are the best lenses/adapter combos to use with the GH4... I have a full set of Canon L series lenses, but until Metabones releases an EF to 4/3 adapter (if they ever do), I'm looking for fast glass to pair up with a GH4.

I don't have a ton of glass yet, but ironically my favorite lens right now is the cheapest one, a Tokina 28mm f2.8 I picked up for 30 bucks that happened to be in mint condition. I find I prefer lenses that have some character to them rather than optically perfect, razor sharp ones.

Depends on the subject matter. For what I shoot that is what I need. But yes, use the tool that gets the "look" you desire.

Does anyone have experience with Voigtlander lenses on the GH4? Would you recommend?

Lenses in my bag in order of how much they get used (documentary shooter)

1. Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 This lens is crucial for it's OIS if you plan to do any handheld stuff.
2. Voightlader 25mm F0.95, Amazing Bokeh, Great for low light situations, Amazing slo motion shallow depth portraits.
3. Panasonic 7-14 F4 Fisheye to standard wide. Great for Timelapses.
4. Pentax 50-135 F2.8. This was my favorite lens for sit down interviews on my AF100, but now it mostly acts as my Tele lens.
5. Sigma 105 F2.8 macro.

Although I have and use a few zooms (14-45mm, 9-18mm, 40-150mm, and 45-200mm) I like to use primes a lot.

What I have and use: Lumix 14mm f2.5 and 20mm f1.7 "pancakes", Pan/Leica 25mm f1.4, Olympus 45mm f1.8, and Olympus 75mm f1.8. In addition to those I also picked up an Olympus 17mm f2.8 which is not a bad lens at all for when I want to "travel light". I often put it on either the GX7 or OMD E-M5 body to have something inconspicuous that nobody gives a second look.

Love the newer panny 14-140. Lighter and sharper than the old 14-140, and much better stabilized (though not as well as the FZ1000 stock lens..)

I use my works' Lumix 12-35mm f2.8, which is great. I have a Lumix 14mm f2.5 also although it's not used too often.

I would like to get the 35-100mm provided I could get a deal.

just FYI, the 35-100mm OIS doesn't work well when handheld, it jitters compared to other Panny OIS lens.
My 12-35mm, 42.5mm, 14-140mm and the 100-300 OIS works brilliantly. Not sure why the 35-100mm OIS fails badly.
Anyway, if using on the sticks, the 35-100mm is a good buy with an excellent range and image.

Hmm that's interesting. Good to know. I've read the 14-140mm is a bit soft towards the end. True? I know it's a slower lens.

My favorite lens on the GH4 is the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 In 1080 mode it is a great lens for stabilizer work. A bit tight when in 4K mode though, as it becomes a 49mm equivalent with the 2.49x UHD crop factor. I'm sure the Panny 15mm f/1.7 would be great, but I already have this one

Greatly looking forward to a 10-12mm fast f/1.7 native m43's lens to be released. Might need to pick up an Oly 12mm f/2 in the mean time.

Cheers,
Pete

It's a dream lens. Fast. AF. OIS. 85mm equivalent = milky soft bokeh for interviews/portrait. I need to stop now.........

Exactly... I have now promised myself once I invoice for the current project I'm in post on I will put a portion of it towards making this lens mine.

My ultimate kit would be:

- Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6
- Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
- Sigma 24-105mm f/4

Right now I have the 18-35mm. I plan on purchasing the 8-16mm within the week. Then the only other lens I'll be chasing (for now) is the 24-105mm.

Once I made my first purchase of the 18-35mm, Sigma caught my attention. The company managed to make the fastest zoom lens in the world; that also happens to be sharper than many of the primes in it's respective focal length. I've seen nothing but astonishing results with the 8-16mm. The B&H reviews talk about the 24-105mm being sharper than their Canon counterparts. So, they've won me over for now.

Oh, also that 50mm f/1.4 is freakin' awesome too.
