Fat Gecko car mount (great) doubles as awesome gunstock stabilizer!

I am working on a short montage right now with almost all shots done using it like a stabilizer, so watch for that, will make sure to post it here.

Here is the oft requested photo!

GREAT looking footage, Ben. The Magic Bullet treatment really made it pop. Actually looked pretty decent full screen on a 23" Cinema Display. And the stabilizer worked well. Excellent framing and editing. Nice job.

Did notice the autofocus hunting a bit at 00:27 - assuming that was the 20mm 1.7. Loved the guy with the flute coming in at 1:31 timed with the horns (or whatever) in the music.

Have you ever had the "C" settings puke on you? I've shot some stuff that I thought would probably break it, but never has. Probably because I rarely have everything in sharp focus.

hard to judge how stable it is cause your hallow clip has been slowed down. slowed down clips always reduce the appearance of shake. That's the discussion right? or are we talking comfort cause it sure does look comfortable. if you stick a head strap to it you could go hands free..ha.

That's it, Ben, I'm getting one! I take it you can lock the mount down so it can be used as a tabletop tripod? I like using the EVF and do a lot of shooting with a Gorillapod jammed against my chest. This looks more comfortable, though less handy than the Gorillapod.

Thanks! Yeah a bit of auto-focus hunting unfortunately.

Yes I've had the C-settings overwhelm the card/buffer and cause a recording stop when shooting 720/60p with a high shutter (higher than 1/60th) I wasn't too worried about it here because I was shooting with not much camera movement and mostly closeups/medium shots. It happens to me on wide shots with tons of camera movements and a stopped down lens. For example if I stop down my kit lens to f/16, bring it outside, at a 1/125th shutter, and then run and whip it around in 720/60 it will always fail.

Yeah you can use it as a table top tripod but the suction cups don't stick that well to wood and other materials. If it was a glass or metal or a very glossy wood table it should work really well, since you can move that arm around.

I lock down all the knobs once I get it in the right position on my chest.

That video is superb... the music was a superb match, nice editing - but the great subject matter made it zing.

I too love gear that has more than 1 use! For handheld shooting, I picked up this shoulder stock from Novoflex: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/240748-REG/Novoflex_PISTOCK_C_Chest_Shoulder_Pod_Reduces.html

Very solid, compact, and easily adjustable. Reconfigures to a vertical hip-support. Can't use it for anything else though, but love this thing for handheld shooting, especially when combined with a flash bracket handle! (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/70990-REG/Kalt_NPLBRACK.html)

Nice work Ben. No software image stabilization? If yes, that's excellent.

Yup! No software IS. I kept some of the slightly unstable stuff in there if I needed it to make the cut (usually right at the beginning or end of clips.)
