Fastest SDHC USB Card Reader

I wish there were firewire card readers, but has anyone got a SDHC reader that transfers reasonably faster than others for USB2?

Are you transcoding from the card? Supposedly Any card reader that is multi function reading is slower.
 
I have wondered this as well. It takes a good hour for me to just transfer my files from a 16GB card. I also use Class 4, and understand Class 6 is faster for transfering to hard drives -- anyone know how much faster quantitatively?

Anyone transfering multiple cards at once?
 
does it really take this long for you guys? I have an SD card reader built into my computer and it takes honestly 10 seconds to transfer a full 8gb card. I did get an SDHC card reader with a transcend 16gb card i bought on ebay, i'll test it out tonight and tell you guys how fast it is.
 
Mine is slow using a class 6 card from trenscend it costs me almost an hour and Im using the avccamviewer to copy to the harddrive
 
If your card readers are that slow (mine certainly is), hook the HMC directly to the computer via USB and transfer them that way, at least until you can get a high speed card reader. A real high speed card reader will still probably be faster, but I've found the transfer speed from the camera to be much faster than the reader I currently have.
 
I'm using a Delkin reader that I purchased from B&H Photo for $11. Make sure that the card reader actually reads SDHC cards and not just SD cards. When shopping around I noticed that most card readers out there do not support SDHC. That's probably why it's so slow. Mine copies over reasonably fast.
 
Sometimes it will and sometimes it won't, but if does work it is very slow. You have to use a reader that says SDHC there was a link on here with a fast reader that was supposed to be pretty good.
 
i have a sandisk usb reader, 30mbps. But i'm unable to import the files into FC. What do i do?
 
It would be helpful to detail what you have done with what versions of FCP on what machine.

Then we can help.

For example, you say import. It's log and transfer.

But help us out with some specifics.
 
i think it's mainly the limitation of how fast the SDHC card can read and write in general on why they don't make one. i honestly don't think it would take advantage of how fast firewire is. i know LEXAR makes a firewire 800 CF reader. I hear it's blazing fast, and they certaintly read and write a lot faster than an SD card.
 
That is so awesome. I'm going to pick one of those up at Best Buy today, since unfortunately my PC won't playback native 720p without skipping!

This will be a great bridge for me until I can afford a desktop upgrade in a few months.
