Fast & Cheap Zoom Lens for Subway Footage

I'm picking up a 60D & I am trying to decide on whether or not to go with the kit lens(EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS) or to try and find a faster zoom for $300.

I am going to be in a subway with an LED light, but a fast lens would be a really big help. I am definitely willing to sacrifice some zoom range for speed. I've been lurkin' and searchin' the forum for my magic lens but I haven't found it yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Can you spare another $150? if so, get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 .. I just recently got it and its really damn nice.. Sharp, pretty fast + decent zoom.

yep! and (havent tested, but heard) that its constant aperture. Which means that when you have it @ 2.8 and zoom, it doesnt adjust automatically. *at least thats what i've interpreted.

Yes, get the Tamron 17-50 2.8 in canon mount. Your exposure will not change when you change focal lengths. It will change what distance the lens is focused at when you zoom since It is not a parafocal design. Zooming is best done between takes.

Ah, I've heard about these still lenses. So if you zoom in to check your focus will the focus point change when you zoom back out?
