Fashion shoot filmed with Canon 7D

I believe the Ralph Lauren video was a spec

I wouldn't worry too much about spikes comments. As seen with his work and his attitude, he's not the most professional.

Drew,

Nice job with the vid, I have to agree, I think you captured the energy and feel of the shoot nicely. That's what good BTS stuff is supposed to do.

2 out of 3 of Spikes examples had no BTS, they were the fashion video shoots, and that misses the point of the what you were doing as a BTS documentarian.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the kind comments. And good point about BTS versus a fashion commercial, as it were.

I like the hand held style, and the true feeling of behind the scenes (shots of the photographer and the subject). There's a specific technique in the style that annoyed me and that's the "start off the subject then find the subject" technique. I don't mind it but felt that it was overused, again, that's personal preference, but it got tedious after the 4th or 5th time (quick examples at :18 and :27).

Great footage though. Good to know that even raw footage looks this good, sells the idea of buying this camera even more.

I havent read all 5 pages, but this footage is awesome.

Whoever the doofus who says watch the shaky camera has obviously never worked with a DSLR doing video before. I could tell in the first minute that you were using some sort of stabilizer or steadycam.

Good stuff, makes me want to upgrade to a 7D from my D90.

Damnit I'm late to the fight!!!!

But I liked it, a lot, looked really good as far as I'm concerned.

-now on to the fight :)
As far as shakey cam stuff goes, jeez grandpa it's 2009, cameras don't weigh 50 million pounds anymore, handheld is all the rage with the cool kids; it's visceral, it's hip, it's now, it's in the moment. Tripods are fo SUCKAZZZZZ!*
And CommanderSpike, I love ya bro, but "GET SOME ORIGINALITY"???? Are you f--king kidding me? Making snide, belittling remarks on the internet? THAT'S ORIGINAL! LOL (Oh no I just became trite)

*not really, but whatever

Regardless, if the shots come across "shaky" then the viewer has been distracted by something. The OP wants constructive criticism. You can't fight the truth: The guy thought it looked shaky.

Handheld and/or on sticks, some of the shots seemed janky to me. There's good handheld and not-so good. So yeah, it's hip, it's trendy, but in this case, I don't think dremaw nailed it 100%.

The break to the shots of the city skyline are pretty, but I'm not sure what purpose they serve. Also, it would have been nice if there was a bit more sync with the music (I think spike mentioned it somewhere back) Like when there were hits in the tune, back it up with more powerful shots. Or is it purely background music just to showcase the 7D?

I think in a movie like Cloverfield the handheld was distracting because it was almost forced, but I barely noticed it here (not that it's not there just that it didn't register as something out of the ordinary).

anyway nice song. I thought for sure that was a new Ben Gibbard side project (or Postal Service reunion) at first.
