I was going to get an ND fader, then I got a rig that has a matte box, so they really arent good for me now. But here is how I was going to handle it. First get an idea of what your biggest future lens or present lens is (if your not going to buy anymore). For example the biggest lens filter I need is 82mm. So now I buy an 82mm ND Fader, and then buy step up rings, or step down rings to fit the other size lenses I have. Or your other option is to buy one for each lens, and at $70 something dollars a piece it can be a little expensive. I have 8 lenses, so buying 8 ND fader's is a little to much, cause with the matte box now I can just buy 4x4 ND filters.

Good Luck.

i thought in the phillip bloom video he just had one of those 2 and there was a knob he turned to make it more or less opaque, will i need something other than the bigger version of those 2? something to attach it or something?

You're talking about two different things. The Fader ND has two layers, and the outer layer rotates in relation to the inner layer, which then affects how much light attenuation is offered.

The diameter is a completely different issue. You can buy one Fader ND, and buy it for the largest lens diameter you have or will plan to purchase, then use step-down adapter rings (inexpensive) to mount it to smaller lenses. The only challenge with this is that some users have reported vignetting on certain lenses when using adapter rings for the Fader ND.

I'm not sure about vignetting with the adapter rings but the Fader ND itself will vignette at wide angles if you put it in front of another filter. But that's the case with most filters if you stack 'em too much.
