F3: F3 rear Viewfinder Removal

Why? What will you be upgrading to? Forget 4K, I'd wait for the second, or even third generation of 4K Cameras. Don't you need an 8K sensor to do 4K properly? The only camera that I know of that does this is the F65.

Why upgrade: better/newer sensor, better low-light performance, global shutter, better color-renditions, better on-board recording codec, 4K (even if you don't immediately need it, probably will soon), ergonomics (why should an op have to get a $3K rig to make it work?) client spec (F3 is yesteryear), 3rd-party support (when's the last time you saw LUTs for F3?), etc

Still have my F3 and intend to use it as much as possible, but being shocked about someone wanting to upgrade is letting your politics get in the way of religion. ;)

Amira, show me the way...

F3 may be yesteryear, but I have made a practice of buying yesteryear, because after all the hype, the knowledge of what works and what doesnt has been sorted out and the prices are reasonable. If a client really wants the latest and greatest I rent. Still looks damn good. Otherwise I haven't seen a single client complain about using a Cooke 20-100 when it comes to giving beautiful skin to the beautiful model. And my version of that lens is 35 years old. So for instance people can keep their Funinon Cabrio 18-80's for all I care.

While I largely agree (I shoot with a Cooke 18-100 attached to my F3) there's a lot to be desired with the newer gen cameras. Since getting a C500, I haven't shot a single thing with my F3…not that I won't. ;)

Id take a C500 :) My F3 cost, well not much, (I thought it was a rip off when it came out), it is a pretty nice cam and will do me fine till 5,55s C500 are around cheap or BMC or some other unknown releases a camera that can be relied upon which could entirely change the game.

I agree with all you say, but I'll pass on 4K for now, and stick with what I have. All money is wasted on these cameras, I'll stick with buying lenses and other bits and bats. I would love a F55, or F65, but they are unaffordable. I happen to really like the image and internal codec from the F3, and would take it over any Canon camera.
