Hi guys,

i'm thincking about a dumb adapter for the fz mount camera (pmw f3- f5 -f55) with the speed booster,
for all the people like me that have a lot of nice glass for full format camera
(i have a contax set, but with the canon eos mount you can use nikon, leica R, pentax, and others mount).
Why don't try to ask a metabones a products like that?

Thanks

Cristian

I had that conversation with them right after they introduced EOS adapter for F100/700... They expressed no interest in it at all, ... Sold off all EOS lenses since then. But, I did buy adapters for F3 for my Contax ( eBay, out of Polland), Nikon (ProLock)...

I hope you will have better luck this time.

I guess I can see where they are coming from. They will sell way more E-mount adapters than FZ ones because E-mount is a lower end mount where users are more likely to use still lenses for motion picture capture. While if you are dumping the cash on a F55/F5 and even a F3 when new, I would think that you most likely will be shooting with PL cinema lenses because you can afford them and wont need to resort to using still lenses. So they probably think the FZ mount version would not sell enough to justify their R&D.

Haha, well I guess that puts paid to the suggestion I sent them for an FZ to PL mount version!

I really wanted my 21mm T/2.9 to become a 15mm T/2.1 though :(

What R&D? It's not rocket science. The hard work has already been done. This is about manufacturing costs, straight up.

In my opinion, Metabones r&d need a few hours with a f3 camera to develop the adapter.
If they sold the adapter for less than 700-800$ i think that many users will take it.

So why don't we take it the other way? I will ask Art (the Polish adapter guy FunkyKoval2001) on ebay if he could make an adapter mount for the Metabones to ZM...

I am pretty sure some break down of communication has taken place regarding FZ mount support. I just finished talking over the phone with Metabones.

First, for a company which shipped Alpa (of Switzerland) lens Speed Booster on day 1, I don't think lack of demand bother them too much? Both are rare but I bet there are more F3 owners out there than Kern Macro Switar owners.

They could not have said yes because they couldn't have made a promise without the necessary research and prototyping but what I was told on the phone was that they were not ruling the FZ mount out at all.

No, not really. How many Optitek Prolock EF adapters have been bought for the sony F series? Answer: a lot. As I understand it the Prolock is back ordered for something like 5 weeks...? And the Prolock comes standard in an F5 package. So EF lenses (nikon lenses also) are being used a lot with F3 and F5 (probably also with the F55 but not that much...).

I find it really strange that Metabones still hasn't produced a FZ to EF speedboster.

I email then every few months for this and also both metabones and Optitek to add power to their Nikon G adapters to enable Image stabilization.
Metabones has shown little interest though every now and then they say they will consider an Fz adapter in 6 months. Jacek has said its easy to add power to a Nikon adapter but evidently doesn't think its worth the investment to make it.
I would rather continue using Nikon lenses rather than EF if someone would make a speed booster and or any adapter that enabled IS since the nikon lens are more often parfocal , have real manual irises ( even the G lenses) and as a side note their cheaper as well.

There is a very good reason metabones won't make FZ version now. I've researched that. I don't know however if only a technical reason I'm aware of is holding them back. There may be other reasons.
as far a Nikon mount we are committed to it no doubt but first we need to complete our system with couple more peripherals that will fully exploit the potential of AF lenses for motion production. Very cool stuff believe me ;)
We need to first demonstrate the potential in its full glory with proper components. Once we do that with EF lenses we'll add the additional mount adapters. We are working very hard to get to the market asap with all the other products.

I am anxiously looking forward to it, Optitek! The FZ mount is the achilles heel of the F3/F5/F55. I'm less concerned with fully exploiting the potential of AF lenses for motion production than I am with using stills glass to shoot cine ;)

All joking aside, I can pull focus myself & I can set iris myself (on Nikons anyway). But to have 2 adapters that transmit IS power and allow me to use my lenses @ 2 different lengths (or stops, depending on my needs) would be a real coup. I don't get why Metabones has ignored this mount.

Just been told by MB that they're not even thinking about it till next year. WAY to busy making adapters for the Sony Alpha 7's

Missed opportunity that SOMEONE else needs to address
