F23: Just Got A New Camera - Sony F23

Muttondraw and James -- Thanks so much for the help. Yes, I only have the battery through the IF box for power so that must be it.

James, if the F35 is still for sale when I've gathered funds I may be interested.

Well, I am getting power to the monitor from an external source and the functions on the monitor all check out but no image.

My first order of business is to switch from CUSTOM to CINE Mode but alas -- I press the SEL/ENTER dial and press the VF/MENU button and nothing shows on the monitor. Do I have to have a viewfinder for that?

Thanks in advance.

As a first step, to see the menu connect the monitor to the SDI out on the camera rather than the Interface box.

And are you getting anything coming out of the camera at all? If not a picture are you getting something when you first turn the camera on, even if its just flashes of colour?

Welcome to the F23/F35 world!

There are some tricky things to operate them:
Once the monitor SDI out is turned off, you can turn it on ONLY with the VF ports.
And you cannot feed them through 4pin XLR with IF-box attached on the top site.

Based on your setup, I think there are only two ways to isolate the problem.
The first way is to attach the IF-box to the rear site and feed 12V to the XLR connector then monitor the IF-box SDI-A/B out signals with a dual link compatible device like Odyssey7Q.
The second is to get a compatible VF to confirm the monitor SDI out is on then check the monitor out signal with PsF compatible device.

I was also wondering what a viewfinder might tell me.

7Q+ is on the list but that will take some time. I suppose I could rent one for testing.

What monitor are you using? do you get some kind of indication that it is receiving a signal from the camera? Can you try a different monitor, different cable etc just to rule that out.

Thanks guys!

I'm eager to see what 1.33 anamorphic will look like. The combination of deep focus with some anamorphic character to the image fascinates me. The F23 sensor size promises to make this possible if I'm right. Can't wait to try.

Nice idea but no real anamorphic options for the B4 mount. Some very very nice B4 lenses available very cheaply though.

The LA7200 adapter gives nice results at the wider end when used with good taking glass. I have a Canon J13ax9B4 that I'll start testing with. This shouldn't be too different from 16mm with a1.33X adapter.

I'll second the LA7200- good versatile adapter that isn't nearly as bad or as soft as people hate on it for. the distortion on the edges is charm to me anyway and you'll have less of it the smaller the chip. I can go to ~21mm on Sigma 18-35 on C300 with no vignetting. The closer the front lens element of the taking glass is to the back element on the adapter is best- which is why the sigma 18-35 is a good choice for that. Would be interesting to find some PL glass with a front element close to the end of the lens with filter threads to make mounting easy

Sorry for dropping out of sight! Yes, I have tried two different Transvideo monitors. All functions seem to be working on the monitors, just no image. The signal cable is a possibility I hadn't considered honestly. I'll get an alternate and try that. Thanks!

What are some of the very very nice B4 lenses ? So many of them out there, its hard to know which are considered the crown jewels - apart from the didgiprimes that is

Most are SD lenses you don't want to consider. Any HD branded B4 lens is going to be of high quality.

But is there any particular B4 lens that is very highly regarded above the others? Seems the Fuji HAe lenses are still quite expensive. This one would be good if i could find it

HAe3x5 5-15mm 3x Cine Zoom Lens

I am liking the idea of an F23 with Digiprimes + a few good zooms, I wonder how many of us have stumbled across this thread and when finished be lusting after an F23?

The price for the F23 camera itself makes this an even better deal. They are going on ebay now for $2,350.00! That's like basically F3 money. If 2/3" is what you are looking for the F23 is a great deal now. I wasn't aware they were going for that cheap.
