External Firewire Editing

Ok, So I don't have my own G5, but I have access to them at school(which is nice.). Anywho, I'm editing an HVX music video and I need to be able to save all my progress from each session on an external drive(I have all the original MXF content from our DP). I have a 250gb drive but only a USB 2.0 enclosure. Will this do the job? Or do I need to invest in an enclosure with firewire? It's my first time finishing a project on a mac and on FCP, so I'm still learning about work flow. All the enlightenment you can give me would be greatly appreciated. We shot on a firestore and did some 60p stuff as well. anybody have a clue how I work with 'overcranked' footage now? so far it just looks like 60i footage(kinda without the interlaced crap though). Am I making any sense? Thanks guys.

I got one from Iomega and one from WD.
Both are 1 Terrabite. They contain 2 Hard Disks and they are hardware striped to raid level 1. With Firewire 800 I can edit from them with no problems. FW 400 may also do the trick but I don´t know.

Price was 280 Euros

FW 400 can handle DVCProHD IF you don't get too crazy with streams, layers and effects, if you are doing simple, short length cuts and dissolves. If you do need to edit with more material and complexity, the drives like Postmaster will work better OR better yet, invest in a SATA RAID.

I do lots of compositing, FX, coloring, etc, and my external FW800 drives have held up just fine. I've never seen in my own studio, with my students, or with my consulting clients, any reason to use RAID or eSATA for DVCPRO-HD. It's just too easy to use.
