Export 720 24pn for the web?????

Someone please help help help

Here’s the situation…

I shot a down and dirty music video for a songwriter the other day.
I shot it in 720pn 24p.

Everything has been great in the edit in FCP… but now I can’t seem to get it to export worth a damn.

I am looking to get it small enough to go onto youtube and myspace.

When I export it doesn’t preserve the aspect ratio (16:9) it turns it into a 4:3 mess

So can someone please help me figure out how to export this out of FCP (studio 1)

Export using what on what platform using what codec?

i am in FCP studio 1

my sequence settings are for 960x720 HD (16:9)

pixel aspect ratio is the same 960x720

edit timebase is 23.98

compressor is dvcpro HD 720p60 (because it was the closest thing i could figure to use for footage shot 720pn 24p

i only have the compressor that is in FCP

i have been just going to FILE - > EXPORT -> QUICKTIME CONVERSION

H.264 is the codec i was trying because was under the impression that it looked really good on the web..

thanks for the followup question

what i want is a 320x240 (with letterbox) QT movie i can put on youtube and myspace etc....

if the is another program that i need to get to be compressing stuff let me know that too.

thanks

Have you tried opening the exported sequence in QT Pro player and set the dimensions there.

Export Movie to QuickTime

In the options under settings, choose:

Compression: H.264
Quality: Best
Keyframe: 24
Encoding: multipass
Dimensions: 320x240 (custom)
Scale: Letterbox (preserve aspect ratio)

These things are learned by experimenting with your tools.

QT Pro player is an amazing tool.

thanks for the help.

i am frustrated because
i have been experimenting 6 ways to sunday.

i dont have qt pro... unless it comes with the studio bundle

i can certainly get it if needed.
which i will.

If you have installed FCP, then you have export capabilities in the QT Pro player.

Export your sequence self contained current settings.

Then launch QT and open the self containe sequence and try exporting as I've set forth.

Letterbox?

Letterbox?

Using quicktime works, but does it have to be letterboxed? (see left info window in image) Also the file size is larger, but the bitrate is much lower.

I've been letterboxing with a DV NTSC sequence, then exporting using quicktime conversion, broadband medium from FCP. (see right info window in image)

Is there a way to compress for web using h.264 but keep it at 16:9? the middle window is the original shot from the HVX at 720 24PN.

Your 960 x 720 clip is expanded to 1280 x 720 during playback. I use compressor in FCP to encode as a videocast preset of H.264 and then set the encoder setings to 50% of original (which gives you 640 x 360). This creates perfectly small enough files to smoothly stream on vimeo, youtube, etc. I don't encode your way, but I think you can still set the size to 640 x 360 and be good.
