Experimenting with DVX200 Color

It's going to be a few hours before I can update my camera. What this update doesn't mention is if the stock factory scenes are valid after the update? I think Barry illuded to the fact that once the update was completed that you could turn off the new mode to use his scene files and I understand that because they were created in the original color palette.

Has Panasonic reworked whatever the default scenes SCN1-SCN6 in the new color palette? To me it seems like if they didn't rework those files that they also would not be valid. Barry can you offer any information?

Here is the description of the firmware:

Improvement

  1. Change to a “NATURAL” color reproduction
Camera’s color reproduction (especially of human skin) is usually affected by lighting or shooting conditions, but this update enables the camera to reproduce a more natural color tone even if affected.
It is easier to adjust the color tone to other models.

It is recommended that color reproduction should be checked after the update is performed or the menu is switched.
    • Due to this change, a menu is added to switch the settings for color tone. Please select the [Ver.1.4 ] setting when you need to shoot in the color tone of previous version.

MENU: OTHER FUNCTION -> COLOR TONE
    • [NATURAL] (Default)
This is the setting newly added to Ver. 1.51 and later to achieve a more natural color reproduction.
    • [Ver.1.4 ]
This is the setting provided for AG-DVX200 cameras with Ver. 1.4x and earlier.
  2. Sense of noise is reduced on black-colored parts of an image shot in FHD.

may help for you

Can somebody explain me in detail how to install new firmware ?

Can somebody explain me in detail how to install new firmware ?

Hello everyone, can somebody explain me in detail how to update the firmware in my DVX200 ? I have downloaded the 1.51 on my Mac and on my SDHX card. But my camera refuse to install it through the Maintenance menu. Maybe i did not place the file at the right place on the SD card ? What do they mean by "Please confirm whether the update file is correctly written on the SD Memory card" and "to place it at the root" of the card ???
Please, can somebody help me with this ?

Many thanks !

I have carried out the download of Panasonic on PC, then file unpacks the update HDC File in the SD card and the camera, went without problems with me.

Make sure that the download is labeled Update.HDC if you never deleted your last update for version 1.40 off your mac do so now. Then just drag and drop update.hdc to card. This should fix your problem.

"Root" in reference to the SD card just means the base folder. Also, are you using the AC adaptor to power the camera while installing? I believe it is necessary to update firmware, as opposed to using battery power.

Slightly confused about the scene files after installing the new firmware. I'm under the impression that I'm still working with Barry's GH4 files that I installed a few weeks back, is that correct? Or am I seeing updated factory files now? Barry, would you recommend working with your files for now if I'm still trying to match GH4?

Definitely. Use the "1.4" color option with the GH4 scene files if you're trying to match a GH4.

I had to give that a little thought at first also. The best way to think of it is, anything that was created by Barry or anyone else prior to the 1.51 firmware will need to be used with the 1.4 color option.

I didn't write down the factory settings prior to dong the firmware update but I have a feeling that Panasonic didn't touch the factory scene files. I performed a reset of the scenes after doing the update just in case they reworked the factory scenes. Based on the differences between the factory scene files I'd say that I am correct that there were no changes in the scene files.

While I very much appreciate them doing this update I have a feeling that we could see even more improvement by some new scene files created in this new palette. So far I'm finding that factory SCN5 in the new Natural mode is closest to what I'm looking for when comparing it to all previous scene files in v1.4. I think if Barry eventually does a set of GH4 scene files in the new pallet we will see some exciting results.

Nevermind, I found it. For anyone else wondering how to make the switch, the menu option is located in "Other Function" - subset "Color Tone".

Thanks, Mapper. I think I'm going to work with the new palette regardless, blue skies and skin tones look so much more realistic with the new firmware. Fingers crossed Barry (or others) will grace us with some new scene files in the coming weeks!

Hey Mapper,

Does updating the firmware revert scene files to factory? Could you possibly post your "Reset" scene files? I lost the factory set somewhere along the line after loading Barry's gh4 set. Thanks!
