Experience with external recorders?

Yes, if you want two copies. But most of the time I only shoot on one recorder. I'm shooting narrative so could redo the shot if the recorder failed - hasn't happened yet.

Thanks.

Got some clips and the quality is better. Now more questions :-)

1. HD-SDI cable need from AF100 to BM recorder
2. Can I use the HDMI output from the BM (when connected SDI) to drive the Zacuto EVF?

The connector for SDI is called DIN 1.0/2.3. Same as used on the Red One. I got some nice short ones at Markertek for about 15 bucks each.

I don't have a Zacuto EVF, but I can give it a try with another HDMI monitor. I'll let you know.

AF-100 is standard HD-SDI BNC.

You just need a short BNC cable. The DIN 1.0/2.3. cable has a male standard bnc end on it like this:

Just so you all know - the Samurai is going to be shipping from the middle of September. ProRes is visually lossless, so you get all the advantages of uncompressed using a sixth of the storage, and the ability to record to SSD, or HDD for extremely long record times. I'm not going to shout here about all the other advantages of the Samurai - all the details are out there for you to find - apart from a few extra ones we're not announcing until the IBC show in September. And of course, it slaves to external timecode/Stop/Start etc.

Okay David,

I can even give you three weeks more as I will be sitting on an island near Sicily from mid-September to early October..... ;-)

Hi David. Nice to hear some extra goodies will be added to the Samurai. Will the initial firmware have these goodies or will they be updates later?

Bob

You are right, did not think of it.

Where can I get very short HDMI cables?
