EX3 & Blue-Ray

ROCKMORE

I just shot a project with an EX3 and want to present to the client on Blue Ray. Anybody working with Blue Ray and EX3 footage that can give me some feedback?

BlueRay does not do 1080 30p. Only 24p at 1080. I THINK it will do 30p at 720.

My shoot was all at 1080 25p 25fps, and slow motion at 720 25p at 60fps. I saw Blue Ray burners for PC as cheap as $60. Just looking for an easy way to deliver my project on HD where the client won't have any playback problems when I'm not around. I'm in a Pal region so all broadcast playback is 25fps here.

25p isn't compliant for blu-ray

You would either have to re-shoot, or do a PAL slowdown of your existing footage

Chad, I don't have a BluRay burner yet, but I did take some of my 1080 30p footage and burned one of the "hybrid" red laser DVD-based BluRays and it worked fine. What am I missing here? Did Compressor or DVDSP do some magic to my footage when I made this disc?

I'm not sure. I am not into BlueRay yet. No player or burner... I just like shooting in 1080p30, and I heard Blueray does not do that. LAME!

Yes, 720p50 would, but I'm not aware of any software that mux 1080PsF25
I guess, converting 1080p25 into 1080i50 will implicitly produce PsF. Well, probably with interlaced chroma. This requires some testing. No, I don't know of encoders that offer PsF option explicitly. I suppose more expensive ones do. Maybe, Scenarist?

So If my footage is 1080p24 and I wanted to view at that resolution I would have to put it on blue ray correct?

Has anyone worked with Blue ray and a Mac?

Nope, Scenarist does not.

1080p25 cannot be converted into true 1080i50 , it doesn't have the same temporal resolution, and even if you did, you would lose 1/2 your vertical resolution.

True PsF Is 25p packaged in 50i stream, so in theory you would get full 1920x1080p frames recovered upon playback. But I don't know of any blu-ray software supports this (encoder or multiplexer), and no blu-ray player that I am aware of supports this (they only support true 1080i50)

Here's another wrinkle for you all. I just loaded the BluRay that I burned on a standard DVD disk and played it in my Sony BR player. The info screen said that it was "1080 60p" and was running at a data rate of around 14 to 15 Mbps. Again, this was from 1080 30p content.
